Exclamation Tail blowing smoke engine help please

2006 z4 3.0si roadster
Recently started blowing lots of white smoke from tail pipe when starting
No smoke when reeving, no smoke when driving.
It burns quite a bit of oil. No check engine light on
yesterday I noticed when I really give it some gas than it sputters several times before it picks up. Its not loud but very noticeable
Any ideas what could be going on here?

White "smoke" or blue smoke.
If it's really white, could be head gasket. Check your coolant level and check for "chocolate milk" looking foam under your oil filler cap.
If it's oil, burning a lot of it at initial start could be valve guides.
Oil sitting on top of the head oozes between the valve stem and guide when it's sitting, so there's a batch of oil in the cylinder when you start it up.

Did this happen all of the sudden? How many miles?

Water vapor is normal upon startup, more so in cooler temps. Once the car is warmed up, you should not be seeing significant white smoke. White = headgasket. Blue = oil. Black = overly rich mixture. Fire = catless and awesome.
