Chipped our 335i and ran the Z4M

I got the procede out of my friends 335i tonight cause his car is going to the dealership for some issues. So well have the Procede for a bit in our 335 Auto Coupe. We did some highway pulls from 40mph to 120mph and the M comes out ontop 2 car lengths. My Friend drove my car and I drove the 335i in M Mode 2nd gear and just floored it, the gears shift themselves once i hits red line. The M is a Monster. Although the 335i felt so much faster after the chip. So i just dont understand. Once Again after driving the 335i with the chip is I could of swore my M was gonna get toasted. And this was not the case again. The results on running my friends 335i sedan (Manual) theM also pulled but not as bad as against the Auto trans Coupe.

-To paraphrase Queesryche, "The butt dyno always lies."

If it helps: 0-60 of the MC is about 4.7 seconds. 0-60 for the auto 335i is 5.4 at best. Add 10% to the 335's HP won't cover that spread, but it will make it closer. More importantly, the 335i is fast

Dude...the reason the 335i feels so fast is cuz the car is so much bigger. The MC weighs a few hundred pounds less and the wheel base is so short that you can haul ass and it doesn't really feel like you're going that fast. The 335i is a bigger car and the HP and Torque you get with the TT and procede make it feel like a monster...even if the MC is still faster.

FWIW, 0-60 with most PROcede-equipped 335's is under 4.6. I, personally have done it in 4.45s with a 6MT.

-How does such a relatively small bump in power decrease 0-60 by nearly a second? The math doesn't add up.

Actually it has to do with the suspension. On the coupe the suspension is much tighter than the sedan. So you don't feel much on the butt dyno. The softer suspension settings on the sedan would give the butt dyno false readings.

Also, the wheelbase length has little to do inline acceleration feel. If he hit a couple turns or bumps in the road, then he'd notice the wheelbase difference.

Hmm, I read that the 335 laps better than the MC. I'm confused.

Personally prefer the MC to be faster. Really looks stupid for a sedan to out-handle/out-race a real sportscar.

55hp and 80+ foot pounds of torque are not small bumps.

I'd agree that the suspension has some of the blame for his false butt dyno reading, but at the same time...inertia also has something to do with it. Things that have more mass require more force to move.

You're very confused. The 335 was lapped faster on one track by one magazine. Only a fool would think that the 335i is a faster car.

-My bad, I was thinking of SS's Turbo Tuner. Also a good product, but changes the boost less.

Still, I would think 3700lbs (appx.) with 350hp and 380lb-ft running through an auto wouldn't do much better than high 4s in 0-60, especially with an open diff.

They do get gobs of torque at low RPM's, which probably helps. 0-60 is an almost irrelevant measure for our cars - we need to be going 25+ before we enter the motor's power band.

+1, the E9X is too big and unwieldy to be worth much on a racetrack

the power might be good, but the handling

Are those street cars, or purely track cars? I'm pretty sure we've been talking daily drivers here.

Several major car mags have gotten the coupe in 4.8 secs and the sedan in 4.9.5.4 is what the factory claims in the brochures which is never right. my .02.
