Show us your lug nuts

I just installed some Blox Racing lug nuts, so I'll go first. They stick out a lot further than I thought they would, so I'm not loving the look. I have a 75mm studs with 5mm spacers all around. What do you guys think?

It really depends a LOT on the style of wheel you are running and the lug nut used.

E.g. Mine are deeper dished and have deeper centre section.
I'm also running longer lug nuts (kics r40) that cover more of the stud.
My studs are 90 mm

I didn't expect mine to stick out this much with only a 75mm stud. Yours is good even with a 90mm stud, but I suppose that's because your wheels are concave. Maybe I just need new wheels

75mm studs with locknut and a spot of blue locktite. LOVE IT!!!

Far out Twixy, maybe different nuts would work? looks like your nuts are coming past the end of the bolt?

(you know you wasted a perfectly good thread title here right? )

Yes, the cylinder part of the nut that is sticking out is just empty space inside. It's supposed to hide any "leftover" stud, but I think I'd prefer to see the stud sticking out through an open-ended nut.

The inside thread of the nut actually ends where the hex shape ends on the outside. I guess they are extended for the looks but I don't particularly like the look. I can get used to them, since I don't feel like spending another $100 on a new set of nuts (there. i said it).

Yes, I realized that as I was typing it so I added "lug" to the title

.....I see that now as well.
It's the nuts that are poking out, not the stud.
I agree, shorter nuts would definitely help.

i have turner bullet hex heads, 75mm and the absolutely gorgeous KICs R40 composite nuts.
Had this combo for years now and it still looks brand new, the nuts themselves are beautiful.

haven't got a very close up pic of them but will grab one next time I'm in the man cave!

Just a question but besides making it slightly easier to change wheels, is there any real purpose to these? I am not a fan of how they look but this is just my opinion (and everyone has one).

I can think of 3 purposes, but there might be more:
1) looks (everyone has a different opinion)
2) easier to change wheels
3) can accommodate a larger variety of spacers and wheels vs having a different set of lug bolts for every set of wheels you have and/or every time you get new spacers.

I have a new thought: my lug nuts are forged AL7075 magnesium alloy. Can I just cut off the extra non-threaded cylindrical section at the end with a circular saw using a blade like this:

Byron, are those Tunrner bolts, Apex rebranded? they look identical to mine, as do the nuts. (btw, man, be careful with those nuts, those butt jockeys at garages with their air tools love to wreak them will ill fitting sockets) I've had to replace 5 nuts before i saw what the idiot was doing… (he was looking at me like i was crazy.. well maybe i am.. a little… )

http://www.apexraceparts.com/apex-pr...l#.Vnl-aFY54lI

will cost ya around 50 bucks and you get free shipping.. or if thats too steep, maybe a hack saw and a grinder.. but when you take the time to do that, you may as well fork out the 50 bucks… imo..

That blade will cut your nuts (had to say it ), but it's going to leave a really nasty finish. I'd check with a machine shop and see how much they'd charge to mill off the excess. The setup for that should be quick and they're not made from a hard metal so they should be able to zip through them pretty quickly.

I have those same nuts, I think they look great on M wheels. The much lower offset of the wheel is whats killing it for you I think.

you'll probably pay less for a new set of nuts than you'll pay to the machine shop to modify those ones.

If it's the offset of the wheel, then a bigger spacer wouldn't help in my case, right? I may just order some regular lug nuts like what Vanne did.

the wheel bolts are ARP fasteners and the nuts are japaneese, they are nothing like the turners own nuts, the pics just isn't clear, they are light weight composite units and were not cheap also they have a locking one with key . After Years of removing etc they still look new after a quick wipe, a really nice mod for the z4 thats having its wheels regularly removed or for additional safety at the track. I have noticed after a few heat cycles the studs can loosen off quite some bit so check them regularly!!

The kics stuff is very high quality and has really proven itself over the years. They have a rotating colar so they Tq down really nicely, they also look as cool as hell which is nice!

I'd much recommend purchasing some non-extended lug nuts for these wheels rather than hacking these up. It's a bummer they stick out more than you'd like but you can always sell them, or keep them until you've got some aftermarket wheels that fit them a bit better.

Also, for future lug nut purchases I would personally recommend going with steel. Steel is much more durable than alum, alum being softer. I would guess steel lug nuts would hold up better for a greater number of heat cycles & installations. Alum is okay (I've had alum Rays Duralumin extended nuts in the past) but once I went steel, I don't think I'll go back

You are correct - spacers won't help how they sit inside the wheel. How far out lug nuts stick is dependent on how deep in the lug seat sits in the wheel - lower offset wheels *usually* have deeper set lug seats, thus extended lug nuts don't stick out as far.

I agree, Kics are great! One of the most popular and widely used high-end lug nut choices for Japanese cars. The free-spinning lug seat is a nice touch, only a handful of lug nuts have this feature.

It's not the offset of the wheel it's the thickness of the center portion of the wheel and the depth of the counter bore for the lug bolts that differs from wheel style to wheel style. All of the non-M OEM wheels have offsets of ET46-47 for the front and ET50 for the rear.

The spacers you have are already causing some of what you see because they move the contact face in the counter bore of the wheel farther outboard which in turns moves the lug nuts farther outboard when they make contact. A thicker spacer will push them even farther out.

I have a set of *Mach Schnell*and didn't want to install them because the fronts are sticking out way too far. I think my set are 75mm so i might try to get the 45mm for the fronts.

My lug style is identical to yours, but you really pull it off well with those wheels. Apex Arc-8?

I think I'll get smaller lug nuts for now and save these lug nuts for if/when I get new wheels.
