I need an E86 in my life lol

I've been thinking of selling my E92 335i to buy another car(manual), and I'm stuck between a Z4 3.0si coupe and an S2k. I wouldn't regret buying either, but the more I look at these threads and pictures....the more I want an E86 haha. I blame you guys for posting gorgeous cars and awesome mods!

Manual tranny 3.0si E86's are pretty rare. The large majority were built with the steptronic auto trans.

Yeah I normally see a few that fit my criteria for sale whenever I look. They do sell really fast though.

If you can afford it, go for a M. You won't regret it.

Ahh I wish lol. I considered an M coupe. Almost hopped on this specific M coupe from ZPost but couldn't sell my car in time. I can only afford the running costs of a 3.0SI at the moment. Here's a pic of the Z4MC I almost went for. So perfect

I respect your financial responsibility, but I don't think the running costs (vs. the initial cost) of a Z4M coupe are that much different from from a 3.0si. Sure there is a valve adjustment every 30K miles or so and the oil is a bit more expensive but it doesn't add up to much. Gas mileage is not great with either car.

If you can, grab a Z4M coupe before they rocket up in appreciation. That said, both the M and the 3.0si are great cars, so ultimately you can't go wrong.

GL!

I went from a 335 to the Z4M and have no regrets. Best car I've owned so far.

I bought my Z4 3.0si Coupe almost 1 year ago. I've not regretted it one bit. Auto Trader shows 6 cars with manual transmissions. Get one.

Maybe that is why the price is so low. It's less than roadsters with comparable mileage. Looks to be fully optioned up though.

Interesting....I'll have to look into it. I also don't think I can afford a Z4M Coupe* if I were to buy a car this Spring/Summer. Got hit with a bunch of other expenses recently. I definitely know I'll be happy with either the 3.0si or M Coupe. I could afford to purchase the roadster, but It just doesn't do it for me. Also, I could just modify the 3.0si coupe greatly as this will be a long term car. Thank you for the advice though!

Yeah I always see em for sale! I really want one with the m sport seats. I'll be listing my car for sale in the Spring, and then I'll start looking for my ideal E86

While the 3.0si is a fine machine there isn't much available for it in terms of performance mods. So don't buy one if you have mods in mind.

Really? I don't really care too much about power mods anymore. But I've seen some forum members with good suspension mods and nice wheels!

No issues getting suspension parts for the 3.0si, it's engine mods and exhaust that's scarce. There's only a couple sources if you want an axle back or cat back exhaust system.

Yeah I've seen very few engine mods. Coming from an N54, it's gonna be weird going to an N52. But the switch to a car with a third pedal is so worth it . I'd probably do a muffler delete until I got headers. LOL I'm talking like I'm about to pick up a 3.0si tomorrow

The 3.0Si Coupe is nearly 500 lbs lighter than the N54 335i you have. Even with a measly 265hp it will feel just as fast.

You don't need HP mods on these. In fact more HP will likely just be a waste because the cars are so much "lighter" that you'll quickly run out of forward traction.

Exactly my thoughts. I don't really care about power mods for a car that weighs about 3k lbs. I'd get headers for the sound lol. I really want to focus on tires first, then suspension/bushings, then a nice set of wheels with nice tires, and some aesthetics...like an aero or z4m bumper. Side skirts would follow, and then I'd do power. I do a lot of autox and I'm planning on doing some track days when I have more money.

Curious why you backed out? After a PPI and very little deliberation, it's now in my garage
