Z4m amplifier question

Hello,

My battery was draining and my BMW dealership found that the amp was draining the battery. Would I be able to put an aftermarket amplifier?

Thanks

Adding an aftermarket amp is not easy to do.
Why not find out why the OEM unit is drawing power??

My dealership said they wanted to replace the whole amp. How would I go about finding out why the amp is draining the battery? I told them to disconnect it in the meantime because a new amp is a lot of money.

I would get a second opinion on the amp killing your battery.
As far as finding cause, short of tracing wires I do not know.

Never heard of this issue. Sounds fishy. Ask them what their diagnostic procedure was.

The light in the center section between the seats has been known to stay on when the latch or latch switch fails. I check to make sure that's off when the compartment door is closed. If it's somehow on the same circuit as the amp that would give a false "drain" indication too.

If that turns out to be the problem, would a temporary fix be as simple as removing the bulb for the storage cubby?

In another forum I found someone who repairs the Logic7 amplifiers from 7 Series BMWs. I exchanged some emails with him and while he doesn't have experience with E85 amplifiers he said he would be willing to take a look at the amp. no charge. He can be reached at logic7repair@gmail.com. If you do work with him, please let us know how it goes. I don't currently have an amplifier problem, but you never know...

Buy a used amp off eBay and have the dealer program it to the car. Used is much cheaper.

I appreciate the help, I will check the light over the weekend. Does the z4 share an amp with any other model? I have an 07 z4m with the premium sound (dsp).

Yes it would, but it is easy to fix as the tab at the bottom of the door is the usual culprit(it breaks off easily). You can buy a new door, or replace the tab with a small screw to do the same thing. If you go the bulb route remember there are TWO bulbs in the compartment(one in the top and one in the bottom).
