Help! 03 BMW Z4 Idle Oscillates and Engine Dies

Car is currently stranded in my in my parking garage at work. Over the last 6 months it probably hesitated to start once or twice but it was so infrequent that I didn't even really notice it. Now I start it and it the idle oscillates up and down for about 30 seconds and then the engine dies. There is also the occasional "backfire". I probably tried to start the car 4-5 times total over a 2 day period. Hopefully, I haven't screwed anything else up by doing this.

I have read that it could be a MAF, O2 sensor, fuel pump or countless other issues. Anyone had this issue with their Z4? Car has 70K on it.

I'm having it towed to a BMW shop on Monday. This is the first problem I have had with the car.

Any ideas?

O2 sensors are prime candidates and fairly simple & inexpensive to replace at ~$60 ea. retail. Don't overpay for them.

Disa valve or throttle body, do you have any dash indicators?
