Z4 3.0i Stage 2 RMS Supercharger Kit

Osh at Race Marque Systems is getting a kit ready for me. Sometime within the next week or 2 I will have all the parts needed to install the stage 2 kit. My car will be their first Stage 2 3.0i s/c Z4. Once I install everything he is going to dynotune it. I will take plenty of pictures and post them as I get to it so I can document the entire process.

Here is a partial list of the setup:
Vortech V2-S trim
38/lb Injectors
M3 intake runners- Adaptor made by RMS
Liquid to Air Intercooler
6 rib Crank Pulley w/ 3.33" s/c pulley - This will give me 9-10 psi

My goal is to push 350+ HP to the wheels.

I'm going to be using software provided by RMS. My car is a 2003. Since I am running Stage 2, I'm selling my ess/VF style bracket for the compressor and level 1 injectors. I am going to use the RMS bracket instead. This will let me run the belts directly off of the crank pulley instead of sharing it with the accessories.

Worked on fitting the heat exchanger, pump and tubes today. Also swapped out the water pump and harmonic balancer. I am also putitng a new thermostat in so everything will be fresh. This weekend I will get the blower & pulleys and brackets installed. If I have time I might get the the liquid to air intercooler also. Here is a pix of the heat exchanger. I have more pics but they are in the camera. These are just phone cam pics. Sorry about the bad quality. Under the hood pics comming soon.

RMS made me a throttle body adaptor and intake manifold adaptor. Almost done. I just need to install the liquid to air intercooler and get it dyno tuned.

I guess that's because it's been done already...

A few other ones:
ESS Tuning (TS1: 315hp, TS2: 350hp, TS2+: 384hp)
VF Engineering (290hp)
G-Power (370hp)

I hope you hit the horsepower goals you want for less than the other kits out there!

To the WHEELS ?? With only 10psi ?From the 215 base Hp 3.0 ??

I'm thinking maybe more like 320 to the flywheel.....and maybe 20% or so in drive-train loss which gives you around 256 whp.

Thats a pretty loose stab at reality on my part.My apologies up front.

I'd like to turbo boost my 255hp SI to about 10-14.7 psi. I just haven't heard back from a BMW engineer yet as to the Mag/alloy blocks ability to hold pressures yet......

I hope yours rocks !

ESS uses a twin screw setup. I wanted something with an intercooler or after cooler.

VF doesn’t have a kit that works with a 2003-2005 Z4. (MS45 dme) They are still having tuning issues so it’s not production ready yet.
I found little to no info on g-power's setup. They have a nice article but that’s about it. The compressor they use looks awesome.

Active autowerks has a setup that’s has a smaller compressor (Rotrex C38-71) that is accessory belt driven. Mine is crank driven. They are running an ms45 compatible setup though. Their cost for a stage 2 is in the neighborhood of 8 grand.

At the moment my cost is under 5 grand because I had a few extra parts lying around already. I had my own compressor. RMS is giving a good deal on the extra stuff they have to fabricate. Its taking a little longer than I initially planned since I only get 2-3 hr of work time a week.

They are going to produce a production ready stage 2 kit but the intake manifold swap would not normally be included in the kit. This is something extra I wanted to do. I am also putting in an aftermarket exhaust manifold afterwards.

I have a M45 (2003-2005) that produces 225-235 depending on which specs you go by. It is an aluminum block. The N52 (2006-2008) with the magnesium block produces 215 hp. Active’s kit runs about 9psi and they are producing 340ish hp to the wheels. ESS’s TS2 does about 300 to the wheels.

It is unsafe for me to boost more than 10psi without block work. The pistons aren’t designed for that kind of boost. Depending on dyno numbers, if I decide to boost more I’m going to build the motor.

I should be able to finish installing everything this weekend. I lost some nuts and bolts so I had to go to the dealer to buy some.

Side view. No more clunky m54 intake manifold with the clunky butterfly valve.

looks sweet! Can't wait to see the results. So with stock internals running 10psi isn't a problem?

The N52 Mag/alloy blocked 3.0si is actually 255 hp..not 215. That was the stock alloy 3.0 litre that was 215.
If the Si ever gets some boost love,it should easily produce above 380 hp on low boost.

I ment the 3.0i from 2006 to 2008 produces 215 its different from the 3.0i in the 2003-2005 models. The new 3.0i repaced the 2.5i. The 3.0i from 03-05 was replaced by the N52B30 (si) makes 255-272 depending on which car its on. I'm pretty sure you can make 350+ whp with 9-10 psi on the N52.

If you want to boost it I'm sure you can easily order a bracket made. But the problem I see is the dme tuning. I dont know if anyone has been able to modify the n52 dme yet. You can however go with a piggyback computer. A aire to water or air to air intercooler setup with a piggyback should cost 12-16k depending on which shop you goto.

graham- Stock internals 9-10psi should be fine. But anymore I would need to change the pistons. The heat would melt the stock ones over time. If I decide to go with new pistons I will just buy an S52 block and build it for boost since the S52 block is iron. I think the S52 and M54 block have the same crank.

All the tubes are nice and snug I started the car up it sounds great and runs great but its way too rich. I shouldnt run the car ont he stock dme but I was just curious on how it would run. Amazingly the stock dme does a great job and trying to auto tune itself. No check lights or error codes but the car needs to be tuned to run properly. I still have to install my exhaust manifolds. Hopefully I get to tune it this weekend.
