Largest tires on stock rims

Hey guys, what's the largest width tires I realistically can fit on stock rims? I'm sure there's a post about this but the search bar came up with too many unrelated results. So, can u guys help me out?

I run 255/35/18 front and 275/35/18 rear Toyo R888 rcomps on the stock rims. I tried the 285/30/18 R888 in the rear but it wouldn't even fit in side the fender when it was not on the rim. I did run a 285/30/19 Bridgestone RE050A on my OEM zcps but if you want the car low expect a bit of rub de dub

Thanks, man- if I dropped the car 1.5" do you think the 275s would rub?

With the 18s you shouldn't rub at all. I am low in the rear... like the top of the tire and fender are equal height and I don't have any rub at all with the 275 18's.

WOW. 255's R comps on a 8.0in? Now I can stop worrying about future 245s on 8.0" then...

Be aware a wider tire isn't always a superior setup.

As you increase width you decrease turn in response due to increase sidewall flex, and increased tramlining... also the contact patch area doesn't increase nearly as much as you would think going from a 255 to 275 tire.

I stick with the stock tire sizes, I've tried all the various sizing on my e46 m3 and honestly I never found the results desirable... most of the increase in grip was going from old dead worn out tires to new tires with improved compounds.
