Why? Why do people do this kind of thing.
SO, since I love to know when things have been replaced I ordered a bunch of stuff for the car and tonight I figured I would tackle the hardest one on my list.....The cabin air filter..
I mean, how hard can it be? Well, it must have been a real bitch for the PO since this is what the filter looked like when it was removed. I think the PO installed it in the wrong orientation and when it didnt go in he just pulled out the old "force it until it fits" method of installation. Good part is that the blower feels much stronger now since the filter is installed in the correct orientation so it slid right in. |

The only way it will ever stop is if you hold them accountable for it. Show these pictures to the Service Manager at that dealer. Post them EVERYWHERE you can on the internet, along with details of the Dealership, and even the Tech's name if you have it. There's no excuse for this, especially at dealerships, where we pay literally TWICE as much for service than at competent independent shops.
If it were me, just for shits and giggles, I would ALSO show these pictures to BMWNA. We cannot just keep "accepting" this kind of service. |

I really thought I'd seen the worst a tech could do, but that is so pathetic that my sides hurt from laughing.

Hehe...I love the feather that's stuck to the filter. Was the previous owner taking chickens or birds out for joy rides?

Yes, I dont know who did the install(dealer or PO). I am assuming the PO since the car is a 2003 and I highly doubt that hte dealer service center would butcher such and easy job.
I did realize as I installed the new one that there is a right orientation and a wrong one. But I for one stopped at the point where it did not fully seat and instead of just forcing it in took a moment to ponder the situation and thoughtfully rotate the filter 90 degrees and prest-o chang-o the filter went in nice and smooth. As I looked at the shambles of the old filter I just had to share it with everyone here. |
