Just an FYI...saw this over on the M3forum => http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=496225

Looks like the replacement Shell 10W60 oil have a "M TwinPower Turbo" label - wondering if this is the new recommended oil for the S54 as well

I need closure on whether or not everyone's been swindled all these years by BMW M and this whole 10w60 business lol

Well- even with the 10W60 oil the rod bearings are needing replacement down the road. Whether or not this occurs slower with the 10W60 than the original spec'ed oil... Who knows?

Here's an even better deal for Liqui Moly.. 7 liters (he says "quarts" at one point in his ad - not correct) + Mann filter for only $67 bucks, free shipping. That's an "extra" liter as 6 does the job in the S54...

Good deal, but I don't like the Mann filter for this application - it doesn't have the metal end caps like the OE filter. Some have also reported that the Mann filter is a few mm too long.

I've used both Mann & Mahle and have seen the difference in construction. Mann advertises "metal free" as if that's an advantage - Mahle would have you believe their design is superior. I suspect that either is up to the task, neither one is a bargain-basement brand and both have a good rep. I haven't had any issues with the size of the Mann.
