APEX Arc 8?
hello all, i am looking into purchasing a z4 and i saw these wheels having group buy everywhere in the bimmerpost forums
they look great and seems to be very light and cheap, however, as i see the seller saying its a dedicated track wheel i am wondering how would it be as a daily driver with not so good quality roads in where i am living, sometimes there are big pot holes and how are they compared to VMR / Forgestar / Alufelgen / LC and other similarly priced wheel makers? thank you all |

i don't have any personal experience with alufelgen or LC but when compared to VMR and Forgestars there are some similarities between the ARC-8's. With the forgestars, specifically the F14's they are similar to the ARC-8's. The look similar (same kind of pattern) and weigh about the same for the sizes they offer. As for VMR's they have a couple different styles (CSL reps and the 710's come to mind) but these rims are heavier compared to both the F14's and ARC-8's. My VMR CSL's are around 24-25lbs per a wheel while the forges or apex's are around 18lbs in the same size. As for saying its a "dedicated track wheel" i'd say that as long as you don't drive into huge pot holes or up onto curbs you should be fine. I used to roll around on my enkei RPF01's daily and tracked them and had no problems on the street. hope this helps

hello, thanks for the reply! i was comparing between the forgestars and the apex..however, i've seen a few post about forgestars 18'' are too weak and not up to standards on load rating and bad customer service / quality finish, anyone have experience with them?

I had Forgestars on my 135, and while they were pretty wheels, they were very weak.
I found a bent rim one day (randomly cleaning them - so it wasn't like I hit a huge pothole), so I sent it of to have it fixed. In the process of them trying to fix it, the wheel cracked and it had to be welded. The end result was not too pretty. Needless to say I won't be purchasing Forgestars for the M. I am 99% certain that I will go with the ARC's at some point. |

ouch, sorry to hear that, i've heard some stories about 135i having them and cracked / paint was not right etc etc
probably would be better with 19''? so i assume apex arc should be good quality ? |

Forgestars look so good. It's a shame the quality just isn't there. I was planning on them but since hearing all the horror stories, not worth it. Good luck with your wheel search and let us know what you pick. I'm leaning towards the Apex wheels as well.
I don't think it would be better with 19's, Actually I think it would be more of a risk to damage since there is less rubber protection between wheel and road. |

And I forgot to add... mine were 19's and to make matters worse in my wheel debacle - they took nearly 3 months to arrive, and when they did they came in the wrong color! I ordered matte black and they came gloss black, but at that point I couldn't deal with them any more and just kept them.
I was a very displeased customer. I will definitely be going with 18's in the future and a higher quality wheel like Arc's. |

not in the market right now, but I sure wish there were a few more quality choices in 18s out there.
Light weight & strong are a high priority.

I have a new set of 18" ARC-8s on my car and while I can't testify to the strength of the wheel yet I can say that they are a great looking wheel, the weights are as advertised and Apex Racing was great to deal with on the phone. They did accidently send me 9.5" instead of 10" rears but had the right wheels shipped out the day I called to exchange them. That had the wheels in stock as well so I did not have to wait months to get them. |

The ARC-8 wheel is perfectly fine for the street.
The wheels are VIA certified and tested in Japan and meet the JWL standard. All the fitments are designed for track use and focused on the needs of track going customers. They are not track only wheels. We weren't focused on offsets and fitments that made a performance sacrifice in trade for aesthetics. The JWL standard is created to show that a wheel can hold up to the required abuse levels for street use. You can find our wheels listed on VIA's database. You will not find Forgestar wheels on that database as they were never tested by the VIA and do not meet the requirements set by the JWL standard. Alufelgen claims to be VIA but I do not see them listed at all. I also haven't found VMR listed. I know Alufelgen's and VMR's load ratings at least meet JWL requirements, which is better then nothing, but still odd if they claim to be certified. GothM, sorry about that fitment mixup. It was the second and most recent time that I've done that out of 1500+ shipped wheels, which is why i immediately sent you the correct fitment wheel prior to even receiving the incorrect wheels. I'm glad to see the fitments working out well. |

I got in on the last group buy for the Arc-8s. The tough part is the wait! I read a lot of good things and it sounds like the quality is there.
I will post pictures as soon as they arrive... |

GothM,
Beautiful set up!!! What size wheels and tires did you get for the front and rears? And is that the hyper silver? Thanks, J |
