Aftermarket Wheels

All -

simple question, did you get longer lug bolts for your aftermarket wheels even if you aren't using a spacer?

I am mounting a new set of wheels and the offsets are different than stock, and I am showing about one thread less for the aftermarket set. I am wondering if I am being paranoid or if I need longer bolts. With the stock wheels and stock lugs I was surprised how few turns I got...

For the RGR's, you'll be fine using the OEM wheel bolts.

And looking at those pics makes me want to mount my 19" RGR's back onto my Z4MC.

18's just look - so small.

RE anti sieze
I assume you just used that to measure?

Anti-seize should not be used on the bolts when installing wheels.
Torque values are spec'd for dry bolts.
With anti-seize the bolts will get overtightened.

Yes, it was for measuring purpuses. There was no other way to tell how many threads I was grabbing, like you can do with studs and lug nuts.

I put anti-seize on one lug bolt, I think it will be OK.

I am curious as to way you think anti-seize will cause the bolt to 'overtighten' though. People use it on a variety of things that you don't want to overtighten e.g. spark plugs etc.

It acts as a lubricant, so it has less resistance to being torqued.
So a lubricated bolt, torqued to 80lbs is actually tightened further before there is enough resistance to trigger the torque wrench.

thanks for the heads up. Should be fine for the wheel... although for more critical components that are sensitive to over / under torquing (e.g. engine assembly) it would be more concerning.

I found your photos of the 19" M3 alloys on your Z4MC and was wondering whether you had to use any spacers on the front or whether they fit ok without?
