vt2-500, finally a proper review.........

so i finally got to have a FULL day driving my vt2-500 roadster..... all i can say is WOW.......

ok temps today topped 30 deg C, so Very very very hot, and im pleased to say the vt2-500 performed faultlessly..... Honestly?? i dont feel the meth/water injection is needed, the power i felt today throughout the day was nothing short of staggering, if im feeling this type of power now, what hell is this thing going to drive like on sub 10 deg C days?? As this car only gets weekend use, its great to see performance is consistant, the intercooler is clearly a very effiecient unit....

Honestly... i dont thing the z4m needs anymore power than the vt1..... The vt2 kit is plain insane, helll im slipping my pilot super sports in first and second in 30 degrees heat!!! Power builts from nice and low now, enough for 6th gear pull difference @ motorway speeds, but the lower gears is nothing short of mind blowing, the rev needle moving so fast its difficult to catch it before it pops the limiter, the s/c is alittle noisey/chattery @ idle with the vt2but this is normal with these gear s/c and it sounds very mechanical, once up and running the recirc BOV makes itself known and theirs quite abit of s/c whistle, intake noise is like darth vadar on heat..... this thing is addictive.

Now water temps are not afffected, i flushed mine just to be sure during the upgrade, oil temp is 100% lower than stock, even in these extreme temps, mines sits just under the 100 deg c mark. i took my dad out for a drive this afternoon and he said "this thing is nuts" lol.

now after using a tank of fuel running this thing allday in these hot hot temps, my AP BBK really showed its worth, this kit WILL kill stock brakes in no time, the brake force needed to stop this type of performance constantly will melt the stock pads very quickly.

in every single sense the vt2 kit has excceeded my expectations, super smooth tuning, great off boost MPG, off boost drivibilty better than stock, on boost performance now in supercar league... imo this kit makes the z5m a true keeper, i will simply never get bored of hearing the tyres chirping deep into 2nd gear, you could drift this thing all day long.... finally the z4m REALLY comes alive, i love my little z4m.... i'll pass this onto my son..... best mod ive ever done.....This car now has supercar like performance.

tom your V12 hankooks are going to be dangerous, lol!!!

meth/water... go on, ill bite.... ill order this tomorrow and do something really special on the install.......

trackday in 2 weeks!!!! wahoooo!!!! (please excuse iphone 4 spelling)

Note boost showing slightly higher due to me clipping the rev limiter, this shows as a slightly higher read, car hits a true 8psi...,, wahooo lucky me.

In more detail, how is the VT2 compared to the to the VT1? Is the power gains very noticeable? Since i don't only want to rely my upgrade on other peoples experience/thoughts, it would be great if you could post some times, such as 60-130 times and so on (yes i know this is not a car for the strip, but would be awesome with some pure data/facts).

Glad you are enjoying the car :-)

hi guys, as soon as i get back to work i will answer all these questions,

i am however pleased to say i had the car MOT'd today, the uks yearly vehicle check which is comprehensive, also the dreaded exhaust gas test, im pleased to say the car passed with flying colours, i was told the car is now emitting more fumes than the v10 m5 being tested at the same time.... lol

the test also said, i get brand new car in worse condition that this!! lol awessomee!! the old girl did me proud, great fun to cruise along in the traffic with it....

again weather is 31+ deg c here, nearly 100 F, again water temps, stock, oil temps cooler than stock and more importantly CONSISTANT power.......
more detailed info Vs the vt1 This evening...

byron

just to comfirm...... the vt-500 WILL pass emissions test/smog test.

What exhaust setup does the UK get? Catless "Euro" headers with large primary cats on the straight section? For reference of the US guys, I hear that our cars can't pass California smog regulations with catless headers, even without a supercharger, even when retaining the stock secondary cats. It might be possible if you find a smog shop right next to somewhere that the car can be run really hard, and you can ensure the smog dude will get you on the machine immediately.

iphone, my car has the CSL/Euro headers and the stock high flow cars, the car passed the test with flying colours, infact im certain i could through on race cats and still pass...........

Cali's rules must SUCK to be stricter than the uk on these tests, ours are very stringent!!!!

The vt1 was a great kit, no doubt the car performed faultlessly, the car feels completely @ home with the vt1 power and is Easier to drive quickly then the vt2, i absolutly LOVE the vt1 kit and i can hoestly say, after driving in ALL conditions, running this tiny 5psi without an intercooler is not problem, i did notice power dropoffs on really hot days and also the car felt sluggish After track use on the way home..... all in all i can definatly recommend the vt1, its imo the "perfect Balance" of power for the STOCK components....

vt2 however is different ball game, power comes in lower and the top end pull is insane, i can definatly say its beyond what id call "street fast" you no how to be very careful where using the performance and think about yourself and others around you, the brakes take a real pounding @ this power level, cooling is now slightly cooler than when the car was stock, the parts that come with the VT2 scream quality and everything is doing its job, in 30 deg c temps when my tyres grip the best, i can cut my pss loose in 1st/2nd easily, the gatling gun fire when i clip the limiter is hilarious, im going to guess 0-60 is very low 4s, drag strip imo isnt suited to this car with this power output, i promise you WILL break something, i actually like that the tyres slip, why?? its protecting my tranny and associated parts...... i drive my car very hard with with complete mecanical sympathy in mind..... Tom looking forward to seeing your drag times, im going to guess low 11s ALL day long, with drag radials, god only knows.....

im going to guess the stock clutch wont last to long @ this power output BUT..... the m3 has proven the stock clutch to be very reliable, luckily the Tq the kit makes is low enough to really be nice on the drivetrain.....The stock ///M differential is imo a fabulous piece of kit and does an amazing job of getting the power to the ground, i am however with alittle slip that the street high performance tyres allow, i will eventually beef up everything....
The s54 with boost is just WOW, the noise is just motoring nirvana, i heard my car on the roller yesterday and the s/c whistle, pops and bangs just made me smile...... were building some serious performance here.....

i will change engine oil every year now, and maintance will be stepped up, i will get the valve clearances checke Yearly.... my next purchase is the okada coils.

i had 450rwhp and 300Tq, the car made 507hp @ the crank, slightly more than advertised as im making slightly more boost, 7.8-8psi as opposed to 7psi. The big vortech si trim isnt even breaking a sweat at this power level.

next step on the exhaust front HAS to be custom V band larger bore system with custom mufflers to keep noise under 94db in an ideal world.... i can however tell you my Xpipe and Rpi setup makes this thing sound like a race car!! lol i see 98-99 DB @ the static track test.... the uk limit is 105Db.

whens the install Bro??

Forgot to mention make sure the shop keep an eye the the powersteering tank Cap as this rubbed on the underside of my hood, so i trimmed the edges off the cap to stop this, its only very slight but again it has to be perfect, also the s/c intake WILL rub the hood unless its in the perfect position, just some notes for yourself.... ive had a goood year with the VT1 to perfect the install, also the intercooler and oil cooler will need a little strip of rubber to stop them clanging together every time you stop as itd gets rather annoying, look closely @ my pics and you'll see the mods mentioned above.

Well, in my first test drive in the vt1 kit was a bit dissapointing, which has kept me from jumping on this kit, but your review of the vt2 gives me hope. I think low 11's is pushing it on this drivetrain. The trap speed is what I'm looking for. 120+ and I'm sold. considering my basic 75 shot is getting me in the low 12's at 115+ mph.

i can understand that, the vt1 needed a Real cool day to feel the difference, The vt2 is just plain silly...... All of my experience is in mega hot weather and it felt ballistic... with sub 10 deg c, this kit will be a hammer blow...

if you Ever get chance to ride in a vt2, i promise you will not be dissapointed, remembe vt1 boosts like 4-5psi and thats right up top, he vt2 is bringing meaningful boost low down, vt2 is night and day to vt1.....
