Data and graphs on 4.10 gears
I was searching M3 forum on data on Nitto NT-05 tires and came across this old post on the difference on stock gears and 4.10 gears.

good stuff, I was wondering if in a long run, a stock car would catch up to one with a diff, which is something I read here

nice find!!!
From a quick look, tires might have been the biggest deterrent to a better showing at the bottom end for the 4.10 You should definitely have the most advantage down low. It looks to me that the 4.10 was exceeding the capabilities of the tires more so than the OE diff.

IIRC 1st gear is a little shorter in the Z4M, and either 2nd or 3rd is a bit taller.

Actually the cover is the very similar to the E46 M3 except it has some of the the fins machined off to clearance the Z4m braces that run diagonally under the diff. |

I was told by someone that you can take the gears out of an old 7 series, but I don't know which one had the appropriate gearing
