Stubby project help

UPDATE: I ended up breaking the antenna off by wiggling it about. Turns out the previous owner did glue it in. Surprisingly, my AM and FM work flawlessly. So I just sealed it with plastic seal to prevent water from going in. It looks great without ANY aerial at all to be honest.

Original Post:

Hey guys!

I have purchased a 2.4" stubby from eBay. It is compatible of course.

For the past few weeks (on and off), I have been trying to unscrew my aerial/antenna. It is definitely stuck. I know there are many threads about it, but I really cannot get it off for the life of me. I have tried WD-40. And I've tried vice grips. I am trying to salvage the OEM antenna (not sure why yet). With the vice grips, the rubber outer layer spins and then springs back to place. Any tighter and I will cut through the rubber.

Has the previous owner glued the aerial/antenna in permanently?

I've tried going in from the trunk/boot with a T25 screwdriver, but all my drivers are long. And, I am not sure what I will achieve by doing this. I will have the base out, but then what?

Help!

Thanks!

mine was pretty stuck too. I wiggled it back and forth a bunch of times (about 5 mins in total) in all direction before i was able to spin it at all. Hope that helps,

make sure you dont bend the bolt part by wiggling. If all fails you can shorten the original antenna by taking the cap off and cutting the whip a bit and screwing the cap on again. Homemade stubby at no cost

Never thought of that.

Any cons behind this? I will update this thread when I do it tonight.

unless you are an avid listener of AM radio, you will not notice the slightest difference. The FM antenna is located underneath the bumper

Ah, I mostly listen to AM (the news) or to my ipod connected via the ipod connector.

I will try the wiggle technique when I get home (currently at work), if I still cant' budge it, I will snip it.

Any photos of a snipped aerial? I have a very strange image in my head and I need re-assuring.

LOL! I'm at work, and this cracked me up.

Good point, I will be ordering a couple of plates (maybe custom?) or no frame at all?.
