Wingin' it
(Original title: "Not Feeling It", applicable to street appearance, but on the track? Now that's a different story...)
Saw this at Cars & Coffee this weekend over in Burlington, NC. Last edited by RecycledTeen; 04-17-2013 at 05:20 PM.. Reason: None |

I love the look of the coupe with a big wing. If they track it, I dont see a problem with it. The wheels aren't my taste, but its not my car.

Normally; I'd pass.. but given it's a track car (sticker in rear quarter), it's cool! I am curious to know the actual impact on the track - the bottom line; does the wing help track time?

Love it--if it were visual only I'd say "huh?" but it's functional. I'd really love to get one.
Front splitter plus rear wing are good for 5 mph or more in high-speed corners. Jmillet reported that when instructing in a Pacific Northwest's member z4mnyc . 5 mph out of a corner is multiplied on straights--so its "worth" a lot in terms of lap time. With a bit more tweaking and adjustments, it might be able to exert even more downforce (at the expense of straight-line speed). Last edited by Finnegan; 03-31-2013 at 03:26 PM.. |

hey fellas, that's me. OP, should've said hi...i didn't see any other zed's there so wouldn't have known. did you stick around to see the mustang burnout in front of all the cars as he was leaving
it's not everyone's cup of tea. i'll agree with the latter, it is functional. it puts a lot of undue stress on the rear hatch because that's where it's mounted. this car is slowly getting driven less and less on the street, and if that were only track driven i may have gone with a chassis mounted one like the goke - but that doesn't look civil at all. we have to be careful with adding rear aero. i tracked at summit point a couple weeks back and the wing worked against me because my front splitter had not come in yet. braking suffered slightly and high speed turn in induced some under steer that i wasn't used to. i expected these things, but took these factors into consideration during my sessions and went about 8/10's. also pictures from the track day will show my car on the straights in a full rear squat and lift in the front. not ideal. i'll report my experience april 15-16 at VIR with the front splitter installed as well for those who are curious. cheers.

I was standing by while you were talking to a few other folks there but didn't get to say hi. Next time... (I had the Audi that day; will bring up the roadster one day). And yeah, burnouts like that will only give 5-0 reason to shut these things down, ruining it for the rest of us. +1 on track use and the stickers were definitely spotted - totally agree. On the street though, I truly love the clean stock lines of the coupe. You have a beauty just the same. |
