I found it laying around my house.
Nobody in my family would cop to it.
Probably bought at Wal-Mart and then forgotten about.

It's hooked onto the lock tabs for the panels behind the tail lights.
Part #9 what holds on part#8.

I slacked off on buying my strip but finally ordered it and it came in.

Was taking a look at my trunk to find a discrete path to run it. The area near the metal rail seems like the best bet (and I think from the pictures, this is where others have ran it). How do you guys deal with the red release handle being in the way? Did you just try to route behind it or did you guys run yours in a different area?

I got antsy and installed it. The biggest concern for me was the strip being visible. I wanted to make sure you wouldn't casually see the LEDs, if you looked in.

Here's how it turned out (you'll have to excuse the junk). And just to note, these pictures are taken in a well lit parking garage. First picture is inside the trunk looking up to show the handle. The third picture is me standing as far back as possible(my back to the car behind me) and taking a picture at chest height to ensure you cannot see the strip. The final picture is an angle at which you can see the strip. For me this is kneeling down behind the car at tail light height. Very satisfied with this mod. Thanks for all the info.

Looks like a nice clean install. Yes, the red handle is just about what mine looks like.

I installed a LED Strip in my Z3 just two days ago. In this case...I needed to install it with all led's pointing directly out as the trunk is different. I like the cleaner look the Z4 gives for sure.

I just finished installing a strip as well. I used a 1m strip. Makes a huge difference! Great idea!

I work as an LED lighting consultant and frequently order lights like this for a few of my customers. If anyone is interested I could place an order with one of my suppliers and make a few up for anyone else who wants them. When its all said and done probably $10-$15 each depending on shipping. Shoot me a private message if you are interested.

At first, I had thought about going with superbrightleds.com but then I decided to take Matt up on his offer. Matt was so easy to work with in getting the same setup as in his post and he also provided really nice, detailed instructions for the install. Awesome guy to work with. Thanks Matt!!

Just completed this mod for my trunk: http://www.zeleznik-klein.com/z4/fix...ing/index.html. Came out pretty good if I may say so!

Looks great...the improved lighting is super nice.

You will smile each and every time you open the trunk... I know I do with mine.

The pics look great. I like the 6000K, was originally thinking of using this CCT, but thought they would be too blue, however, they look great, I like it!

Another compliment to mattr88. He quickly sent out a set of lights to me and it's a world of difference. Yes, I do smile every time. Hard to believe I lived in the stone age for so long. Thanks Matt.

Hey Matt,

I may have a need for some LEDs for a safe soon. I have to figure out the details on how it's going to get power but I was looking and LED strips and remembered back to this thread. Are you still supplying LEDs?

Great mod, thanks.
Placed my light strip up into the recessed area on the bottom of the tray, added about 8-10 inches of wire to the leads and ran it behind the panel housing the light.

Yeah I still have the strips. Shoot me a note with the info, would be happy to send some your way. Also, would be happy to help with the design if needed.

Would you chaps say it was better to go with cool white or natural white? I'm swaying more towards natural white at the moment as that seems like the brightest without having any of that nasty yellowness to it.

I'd say cool white...even at dark of night it is easy to see a lot, the natural light is actually fairly bright, and at night a bit harder on the eyes.

But that is just my opinion...others might have different results.
