Not true... mine is an 2007 and two bolts broke, one was missing and one was holding the engine up. The scary part is the I only really noticed the knocking noise when I was doing an autox and then decided to inspect the car afterward. I thought it was a sway bar at first that was loose. I am lucky that one bolt held up to the abuse.

I recently took mine in and referenced the SIB. They inspected both sides, determined that the passanger side bolts were loose, and replaced them. I suggest you do the same if your car has not been inspected. I deal directly with the service manager and he is great, and has always given me good service.

Samey-same. Not sure from your description but they replaced all four bolts on my car. My only annoyance with my rep, and it was a minor one, was that he insisted putting into the computer that I was complaining about drivetrain vibration. He said that was the only way they could do the work under warranty. It seems to me that if theres enough evidence to put out a service bulletin they should just be doing the inspection on every car that comes in for service. Having to mention a specific symptom and referencing the actual bulletin seems to put a lot of the burden on the customer.

Ditto!! Thanks for posting this.. My car was just in for its yearly oil change and mentioned the bulletin, two bolts were loose, all 4 were replaced... I also went ahead and mentioned a 'perceived' vibration. (which I perceived from the service bulletin) my mechanic said i was lucky it was caught. The bolts were finger loose!!!!

Yes, the process is somewhat absurd. It seems like BMW is trying pretty hard to crack down on unnecessary service repairs, but they are probably pushing things too far. I wouldn't blame the SA as they can't do much these days without BMW approval. There needs to be a recall on this if so many people are having problems...

Will e-mail BMW NA with my concerns. My SA insisted there is no SIB for the above problem. My warranty runs out in two weeks. 04-27-10

There is definitely a SIB regarding this--the one posted by the OP. I saw it myself on the SA's computer screen. I would print the SIB and show up at the dealership. Better yet, go to another one if you can.

So I went ahead and check the official date of production of my car. It was with me at the time, and I had a feeling it was either March or April 2008. So I called my dealership. Giving them my VIN number, they would be able to answer my question.

To my great surprise, the date of production of my "beast" falls exactly on the anniversary of my birthday. 16 April 2008. This car and I were meant to be!!!

My car was in for door rattling SIB 51507 and SES light was on and went off. They pulled the code and finally determined it was a leaky tank breather valve. The dealer said they need to wait for the part to arrive the next day. I told my SA to check my engine mount bolts while the car is waiting for the other part. SA told me tech checked it and noticed the bolts are loose. They re-torque the bolts. I told my SA this is not how to address this problem SIB specially stated to change the bolts. I told them I will be back in a couple weeks to have them do the job right. Dealer agreed.

My car is 12/06 for MY.

wow guys. thank god for this thread.

don't get me wrong, i ive read sib's on the failing engine mounts about half year ago fro mother members but didnt think it will happen to me,

but three nights ago i was driving back in heavy rain from la back home to costa mesa and i heard a loud THUD/BUMP sound from the middle of the car... i immediately pulled over, revv'ed engine lightly, looked out for white smoke, looked under for broken shraps or pieces or looked for leaks (i thought i blew my diff or trans or anything that could have made that thudding noise)

terrified and worried, i took it in to crevier bmw on the 5. the car was still drivable but had this HUGE almost "open header"/exhaust leak vibrations in the dash/engine parts of the car..

needless to say, theybe diagnosed the problem, replaced the bolts , not sure what the dealers replace it with, same faulty bolts? or newer faulty bolts, bleh, but crevier techs found out that i have had two engine bolts broken and one loose.

my s54 was hanging on by one bolt. fml. well imagine if my engine fell out that night, does it even work like this? this "defect" is actually quiet interesting.

thank god for this thread once again. i thought i had to fork out money for a blown engine/trans/ or something but its the engine mounts

so z4m drivers/owners, please take your time to the dealers ASAP before this could happen to you.

thank you all for this! especially linking the sib's and such for easy access.

i took it in to crevier and showed the link the OP posted. whew.
