The writeup on what fercho bought specifically lists:
"● Read / Clear / Reset Air bag Light codes" and much ... much more. The kit I bought looks like exactly the same thing. I think they all come from the same hack. Every thread I've read on these say that installation is a PITA. I think it's native Unix, not Windows, so you have to get creative. Luckily I'm an actual rocket scientist. |

Excited to see if this works. I am assuming it would activate the alarm once installed?

I've heard tale it'll make your clown nose flash if you don't have a factory alarm.
(Don't know if it'll make your bow tie spin, though.) You have a factory alarm, but it doesn't go? |

Sorta works
Installation was a little tricky. The rar file with INPA had an expanded installation tree, and an iso.
If you follow the instructions and install from the expanded tree, it complains that it can't find INPA.LZH. If you check the readme.txt in the root of the DVD, it says "remember to mount the inpa iso". Mounted that with the supplied daemontools. Looks the same as the expanded tree, but installation works. DIS and PROGMAN(SSS) are working. Set my 1-touch turns signals to 3 flashes. NCSExpert won't run on my laptop. It's 64-bit Windows 7. I can maybe run it under VMWare, if I can find a copy of Windows XP around here somewhere. Kit came with CarSoft, too. Haven't had a chance to try it. DIS said my battery was low, so I quit while I was ahead. Late and 1/2 drunk anyway. |

I was able code the alarm and many more options using NCS expert, and very easy to use once you understand the basics.

Make sure you have a Windows XP machine if you want to use NCSExpert.
Progman (a.k.a. SSS) works well, and may do what you need. There's a bunch of alarm settings in it. Looks like the "Measuring System" in DIS only works with more advanced pods. Digital diagnostics work. INPA is pretty cool, but now I have to lose sleep over what's up with this: **UPDATE** I hunted up a different install of EDIABAS, INPA, NCSExpert with a lot more English (still a little German). From this thread: http://bmwcoders.com/forum/1-post1.html Note that it also gives different results. German is S54 Engine script MSS70 v 0.01, English is MSS70 v 2.01. Apparently not all INPA are created equal. (both are top level v 5.0.2): Last edited by StickMon; 05-22-2012 at 12:28 AM.. |

Here's what the alarm settings look like in Progman, and it goes on for about another screen and a half. It's possible that since you didn't have the alarm originally, everything's set to disable.

I did the rear facelift on my car, and I have the "error light" on the dash board saying that one on my bulbs went off, also also I have aftermarket hid on the headlights, thats why I want to disable the error light.

Will DIS tell you specifically which bulb(s) it's pissed about?
And to sum up my original post, the cable alone was worth the 43 bucks. Payed more for the cable to connect my XM. The software is extra gravy. I would definitely recommend it. |
