I ordered the k-line cable (one above) that is supposedly good up to 03-2007 but my car was made in 04-2008. Wonder if they kept the E86 with the k-line instead of changing to the d-can in the middle of the build. Hope its the K-line cause thats whats coming. Also why must the pins be soldered?

I couldn't figure out how to use PA Soft on reseting the region zone.

Maybe you can but it didn't work for me.

I succeeded in using NavCoder to do the deed.

Now I have no Nav Nag Screen anymore!

Bugger, Yea, I tried standard BMW tools Progman, DIS, and INPA. All I was able to do was verify Country: ECE.
Will play with NavCoder next. I have NavTweak, but it's only for playing with graphics.

I just received mine. StickMon, do you have any tips or anything before I get started? Mine came, and is a blue OBD II / USB cable with two DVDs (one labeled DIS, the other SSS).

I intend to dig up a Windows XP laptop to play with, and start with ProgMan. If you can give any hints or "gotcha's" that you came across that would be cool.

I found that all INPA are not created equal. See this post.

Haven't done much coding. Enabled the 3 blink turn signals with SSS/Progman.
The rest of my car is already pretty much the way I want it, so I mostly use it for occasional diagnostics.

Just recently discovered NavCoder, thanks to ANILE8. Does much more than just Nav, or at least it will if you pay 25 quid to register it.

I had success getting the settings that I wanted changed with SSS/Progman. That is: I turned off the infuriating auto-lock, and also "selective unlocking", meaning that I can unlock the entire car with the first unlock remote press.

The install was "easy", albeit slightly convoluted. I'm running on Win7-64bit, and Progman at least ran OK. It had a hard time reading my car at first, but then I tried with the ignition to the "run" position, which seemed to appease it. I'm assuming that the ignition needs to be in this position for any diagnostics/coding?

I didn't venture into DIS yet; Let me know if you come across any tips or tricks, so far I think the purchase was worth it, thanks for the heads up!

Yes, ignition has to be on for most, if not all.
I like the "selective unlocking" idea. I think I'll hit that next time I'm in there.
DIS is a little less "user friendly". One of the first things it asks you to do is "Run a quick test!". (Yes, with the exclamation point.)
It is pretty quick and worth it, but don't freak when each module comes back with an exclamation point. Exclamation points are good, x's are bad.
It will then give you pretty cryptic reads on all of the errors it found. The units remember every time you burned out a bulb, the radio had a brain fart, etc. It gets particularly busy after you get smogged. It thinks the wheel speed sensors are broke, the ABS is broke, the DSC is broke...
Most of the time it says "fault no longer present", but unfortunately it doesn't have time/date stamps, so you can't know when it had the fault.
The only trouble I have with it, besides being somewhat confusing to use, is the mouse cursor goes wacky after using it for about 10-15 minutes.

NCSExpert won't run on Win-7 64 bit, which is what I have, too. I got it running using Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP Mode, but couldn't get EDIBAS to grab the serial port. It was late so I quit while I was behind and haven't gotten back to it. I'm sure it can be made to work, but it'll take some futzing.

I think I'm going to buy the wife a new laptop for Christmas and bag her current one as a dedicated Bimmer terminal.

Did some corner balancing and an alignment over the weekend.
I was hoping that with PA Soft I would have access to the module for SAS reset ....no luck.
In fact there were very few modules that were accessible at all.

This seems to be a recent iteration of the hardware where 4-5; 7-8 are jumpered no wiring to 1-2.

anyone know if 'progman' gives access to SAS reset?

I doubt Progman will, but DIS should.
Are you trying to reset a fault code, or the adaptation?
If the latter, I would try INPA.

I'm not plugged into the car, so this is as far as it will let me go, but it looks promising.

Thanks...
I'm zeroing adaptation after alignment.

Headed to the track on Thursday and was hoping to prove a theory.
I'm pretty sure I'm getting intervention powering out of corners.
This would have been a good chance to correct the SAS adaptation and compare.
.....guess it will have to wait until next time.

Why not just install INPA?
You have a couple days left.

dont have it.
I only have PA soft 1.4 ATM

I also found out it may be tougher to get connected with a production date after March 2007.
BMW changed the CAN system after that?
"'DCAN' interface cables contain advanced electronics that allow connection to the new diagnostic bus used in all BMW's built on or after March 2007."

You might want to give these guys some money bmtechnic.co.uk, I tried installing all the apps on my own and it was a major pain. So I paid the $40 bucks and now I have everything installed and running great (on my mac under boot camp no less). Was able to do the vanos tests as well as a bunch of other stuff.

Yeah.... contacted them yesterday.
That's my next move.
