'05 thread about the Z
Funny how people found the car ugly. Pics in the link have been removed, so it's possible they were just renderings as opposed to the actual thing. Either way... it's a work of art in my opinion and has really grown on me over the years. I'll admit I never paid it much attention when i was an e46M3 owner.

Ha. I would love to read the threads about the old clown-shoe M coupe. Actually, people still think it's ugly...just that it's highly sought after nowadays...
Having a Ferrari FF kind of aping it helps too.

People say your E86 coupe is ugly? Wow, that is the first time I have heard this. IMO the coupe actually is a big improvement over the roadster(and I drive an MR). It looks very exotic to my eyes. It took me a long time to warm up to the E85's looks.

Just a few people at work that don't really appreciate cars...They think that if its not American or a truck, its not worth having. I can't wait until I am finished working in Mobile, AL so I can move back up to ATL

^ Only thing that'd piss me off more in Mobile is those idiotic 'pillow' style speed bumps.
I find, as a typical opinion, that more women like my roadster that men....which isn't always comforting. To me, the M Coupe is beautiful, but I prefer the M roadster over it. The coupe comes next, then the non-m roadsters and coupes tie, in my eyes.

Honestly when I first joined the forum I thought the coupes were kinda ugly. Nowadays I think the coupe looks great and I really want to own a coupe with a wing as a track toy someday.
It's interesting how your perception changes over time. I still think the clownshoe is hideous though, but it's a special kind of awesome-ugly-duckling-bjork-in-a-swan-dress hideous

They both look great to me, different but both excellent designs. The roadster adds a modern interpretation to the classic American muscle roadster IMO, a kind of retro/modern. The coupe is just plain cool and exotic...... they both rock

this was in '05. slowly people are coming to their senses that this will be one of the most sought after cars to come out of the M production line, if not BMW line altogether.
inline award winning s54. and the coupe has 32kNm of torsional rigidity which is effing unheard of...to put things in perspective i think it's more than a zonda but just a tad bit less than an F50. i was at a bmw meet this past weekend. somebody called the bonnet 'cruella deville esque'. it's an odd looking car for sure, but jeebus it's beautiful.

Bangle designs have always been controvercial.
When I bought my roadster, I didn't like the look -- it was the drive that sold me on it. After driving it, the car instantly became attractive to me. That said, I have never picked a car for its looks. A few of my past cars that come to mind... all 5 speed manual, of course! 1995 Honda Prelude (not necessarily unattractive to most, but I was rocking 18" gloss black Volk wheels in 2001 -- everyone would always tell me where I could take them to get "chromed" - no thanks!) 1999 Volvo S70 T5 1991 Miata (I got made fun of constantly for driving a girl's car... but for some reason everybody wanted to go for a ride in it? Like the Z4M, it was nice to not have to slow down for bends in the road - albeit, I was not going as fast in the straights as I can now!) |
