Steering Wheel Trim Wear
Despite being very careful I noticed the trim on my Z4M steering wheel today. The soft touch black finish on the trim pieces has worn beyond where I would like it.
My questions: What options are out there? Ok I guess I can buy a replacement set but suspect it will end up the same. Any recommendations on deals to replace or a place to have them refinished. My interior is all black and would prefer to keep it all matching. Thanks. |

I am in the same boat. I am at the moment looking at removing said parts, cleaning them up back to bare plastic and giving them a rubberised plasti-dip treatment. If the color is the same, it will be fine for me, but if its not, I'll re-order the parts.
It looks terrible and crappy ATM. |

When I got mine it was pretty bad. I just removed the rest of the soft touch coating and it's now shiny black which looks much better than the pealing look.

Mine's previous owner had lots of rings. I also noticed that the ///M panel was loose.
Turns out the bosses the screws go in are broke. Bought a new set of trim $$$. Still have it in the spare parts drawer in reserve. If you remove the parts, be very very careful not to over torque. Plastic gets brittle from age/heat/sun. |

I removed mine, sanded and painted with a matte black plastic-specific paint (check Ace Hardware Vanne). Spent a full evening carefully sanding, but very happy with the result.

I had the same problem. The wheel was starting to peal and I couldn't stop touching it. Rather than replace the parts I used the carbon and plane vinyl. Turned out nice.

I just finished mine...
I did not remove the whole rubbery bit, but initially sprayed with gloss enemal and then sanded down, so the holes would be filled, then followed up with a light sand and then with flat black and it still kinda feels rubbery : ) And Both these pics are after the repairing. Man it looked crap before. It's not 100%, but surely better than 95%. Happy
