Z4 M Coupe opinions?

Hey all,

Had a 135i for a bit last year, since then have had a BRZ, 350z and currently a 07 Mini Cooper S. Local dealership just got an '08 Z4M Coupe in stock with only 20k kms (13k miles) on it. Went for a drive and was pretty impressed with the way it felt.

Any good information out there regarding long term reliability? Any major concerns to look out for?

Thanks!

Lots to read here. Overall these cars seem to be pretty solid, there's an FAQ to look out for.. One thing to take into consideration is you'll see lots of things about VANOS issues, and it's really not something to be alarmed about.

The nice thing about the S54 engine is that it's a pretty old engine that was pretty well refined by the time it got into the M coupe.

How much are they asking for the car?

If this car is at a BMW dealership ask them for the service history of the car. They might push back but insist. It should have a 1200 mile service, and at least annual oil changes due to the low mileage. Also ask for the opportunity to take the car to an independent shop of your choosing to have a PPI done. This is critical to see if there's any potential trouble spots that can only be identified by putting the car on a lift and inspecting it from underneath with a thorough examination of the suspension components, transmission and transmission mounts, differential, engine mounts, etc. Look for an independent shop that specializes in European cars, particularly BMWs.

Available options were Premium Package which includes 8-way power seats, Bluetooth, and Cruise Control; Heated Seats; Navigation; and Extended Leather which includes leather on the console and full leather on the door panels. Trim options were Brushed Light Aluminum, Madeira Wood, and Carbon Leather. This was for 2006, options for a 2008 might be slightly different.
