Temporary Loss of Speedometer,Tachometer and indicator Lights 2006 Z4 M Coupe

This problem is driving me crazy and it is so unusual that I can't find any threads that relate. Initially my clock needed to be reset every time I started my 2006 Z4 M coupe. Now, every time I start the car the Dash remains dark. The speedometer, tachometer, indicator lights, turn signal lights and window power controls are dead. The car starts without a problem every time but these parts of the dash just fail to come on. Occasionally after 15 secs, the gauges and warning light etc spontaneously start and I can drive off. 50% of the time, They will come on once I start driving after about 15 secs and then sometime, I will have to restart the car several times to get the gauges and other powerless items to come to life.

I have checked, fuses, relays, wiring, pin connectors and anything I can thing that could be faulty but I am coming up with no answers. I have recently replaced the Bosch battery with a new Bosch battery that is the correct battery for the 2006 M Coupe.

I am open to any suggestions the forum has to offer.

Since you've got a fresh battery, my next thought turns to the Alternator/Voltage Regulator. If you can pick up a discounted Voltage Regulator maybe try that first. If you can't then maybe do the whole alternator. If that doesn't solve the problem, then at least you've removed that from the equation and done some proactive maintenance.

Here's a thought for folks. For this situation, what would happen if you removed the Alternator belt to take an erratic power supply produced by the Alternator/Voltage Regulator out of the equation? Do we think that would do the same swapping the Alternator/Voltage Regulator?

I would put a voltmeter on it first and see what the bus voltage is doing.

Does the clock still need resetting after tge battery change? If not I would look at the ignition switch. See this thread http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthre...&highlight=key

This! The part is relatively cheap and very easy to change. I would swap this out first.

This exact thing happened to me once 3 years ago, I lost all power to the cluster (lights went off, gauges went to 0) for a split second, never saw it again after that so I stopped worrying about it.

One would expect that as soon as you put the key in the ignition and turn it without starting the engine, the battery would power up most of those items, so I'm leaning towards thinking its the ignition switch. Please get back to us with further reports.

And I was so hoping you would say "I"LL BE BACK". Oh well. hasta la vista!
