N52 Chasing E92 M3 at NJMP

Ran with PCA at NJMP, fastest cars on our group was GT-R and GT2, but had no problem keeping up with 987, 991 and m3's!

Thanks that was my fastest lap. Here's some raw videos, no acquisition data but get to see some of the other cars in the group

You can clearly see that your car is light.
Superior in braking and foremost cornering speed even though this looks like a very fast track. (so more powerful cars have more advantage)

That first black porsche you're overtaking; that's a 997 carrera 4s?

Agreed one thing I've learned is that hp definitely is not everything on the track!

Not the 4...

Very nice! How is it running with PCA? I'm trying to get into their school there November 3rd and 4th, but I'm on the wait list.

Cheap, lots of driving time and laid back guys. I actually like it more than CCA.

I've found the DelVal CCA guys pretty laid back, but I've heard the NJ chapter is less so.

Nice driving! Braking and transition look really good, exit speed FTW!

Gotta admit, passing Pcars and E9x M3s is kind of a hoot. I know I shouldn't enjoy it too much, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't. But then someone who is a better driver in a E36 blows by me a corner and I settle myself back down.

Totally agree, clearly this is not the point of a DE. I get much more excited when I know I put in a fast lap during an empty session but it feels awesome when drivers come up to you asking if you were 'that guy' in the Z4!

Great videos mate, excellent driving. I wouldn't see which way you went if we were on the track together!

You've probably mentioned this somewhere before but what's your video/data acquisition setup?

Many thanks. I've used a few different cameras but nowadays (including the videos) above are simply my iPhone 5. It lacks a wide angle lens like the GoPro but I find the viewing area sufficient and not to mention overlaying acquisition data is so seamless since that itself is run from the phone.

Software is Harry's Lap Timer Pro. OBD data (gear, rpm) in bottom right of my video is pulled using the GoPoint BT1 device which connects directly to the car's OBD port and communicates with my phone via Bluetooth.

Looks very slick. Does the app also combine the video and data overlay?

Correct, it has a preloaded database of tracks worldwide. It gives you lap timing data which you can overlay onto video using the phone's camera (all done within HLT, don't need to choose the camera function). However it also allows you to overlay an external video source, ie GoPro. You just need to import the external video file into iTunes and then overlay it through the app. However doing everything from the iPhone will make your life easier. Also, Harry has his own forum where he engages with users directly and frequently so his customer service is top notch!

That is absolutely awesome. Sadly I'm an Android guy so it's not available for us but that app would almost be reason enough to buy an iPhone for someone.

We have a few good lap timers as well but none as far as i'm aware that makes the overlay for you as well!

Last I checked the HLT forum, Harry said he's coming out with a Droid app in the near future =)

You may have done it elsewhere, but can you show your mounting solution for the Iphone?

Your OBD data looks to be running at either a higher update rate than mine (I'm also using HLT), or program/overlay processing must be configured differently. I'm using an OBDKey Wifi dongle to get the OBD data, And about the best data rate I can get (on the same car) is about 1.3 Hz.

Anything special you've done, or are you just running out of the box?

My OBD is using Bluetooth so that's the only difference I can think of.

1. One gopro mount on the trim

2. Cheap iphone case with another gopro mount. Use gopro arms to connect (don't need 2 pieces, could've gotten away with 1 but I preferred the length)

3. All together
