Why is my Z beeping at me?

Is it normal for Z's to give a warning when the outside temp. is about 37 degrees or lower? The beeping alarm will go off and then the temp reading on the dash with flash a few times. It has happened a few times this week as I am trying to squeeze the last remain days out before I put her away for the winter. For the record, this is on a 07 Z4 Roadster.

TIA for any help. I can't find anything in the manual about it.

Thanks,

FDR

Yes, this is a freeze alert and is fairly standard across all BMW models.

Yep, just letting you know conditions are capable of having ice on the road.

Yep, just about every BMW made in the past 40 years does this - BLACK ICE warning. About page 48 in the 2008 version of the Manual.

I think it is BMW 'bleeping' the profanity coming from your roadster for being outside in those temperatures.

Of course, mine sat outside last night so he had some choice words for the wife this morning.

I didn't like the chime so I disable the beep with coding, it only flashes temp display a few times when it hits 37 degrees or below. It's pretty loud in the small Z4 coupe cabin.

I just had this happen to me this morning. Then I remembered that the manual said it would happen to warn about the forming of black ice. Pretty cool idea for now but later when I know that it is cold out it will probably be an annoyance.

I've had my Z for almost 6 years now and I still have not gotten used to the beep. It still scares the bejeebez out of me every time!
