I would seriously consider the M vs the SI. I used to have a 3.0 and by the time you take a look at a mod or two your in the M price range. Thats why I sold my 3.0 and bought the M.

No. 3.0i and 3.0Si have different engines, N52 for the Si and I don't remember for the "i" model along with other minor differences along with the face lift. The Si was available with the "Sport" or "M Suspension" package (different marketing names-same package, depending on where in the world you were) as an option.

From what I see (on AutoTrader, Cars.com, etc...), the majority of si's have the sport package, which I can tell by the sport button left of the shifter, but the M seats are an additional option? Am I correct in my thinking?

From what I remember from using the online configurator in high school, the M seats were a standalone option. I'm sure someone has better insight than me though. lol

another option is to check with the owner's manuals. a lot of owners put the original window sticker with that (me included).
Or you can run it yourself here - you'll need the last 7 digits of your VIN:

This is correct. The seats are not part of the sport package(incorrectly stated earlier in the thread). I think they were $500. As you said - the sport button is way to know as many folks swap their wheels.

Chickdr is correct as separate option and on price per my window sticker.

$500 for M seats seems like a no-brainer to me, surprised they aren't more common.

You are correct. It was possible to buy an SI without sport seats. A buddy of mine has an SI like that. And I think Aries326's alpine white 3.0SI was also like that and he has since installed a set of red leather M sport seats.

I dont know if its different in the US, but in Europe all 3.0 facelifts are 3.0si (265hp).

Here you can see my Coupe with the different options. It was delivered with all M-options except for the steering wheel.

Not flaming, but I ran my VIN on that site and it didn't come up. I used this site when I checked on my car a few weeks ago.

Do you mean coupes, or all Z4's? In the US all coupes are 3.0si's. 06+ roadsters had 3.0i and si versions through the end in 08.

Ive never ever seen a 3.0i facelift here in Europe. That includes roadsters. 2.5i and 2.5si though.
How much hp is there in the US 3.0i facelift?

For North America, the facelifts were:

3.0i - 215 hp

3.0si - 255 hp

Ok. Did not know that. Thanks for the info.
Euro versions are 2.0i (I4) 150hp, 2,5i 177hp, 2,5si 218hp and the 3.0si 265hp.

But what happend with the missing 10hp in the SI? I believe reading something about a additional cat? Correct?

Its got to do with more stringent emission regulations in North America. I'm not sure how one would address this but I think the changes would be fairly expensive for just a ten horsepower gain.

I can't take credit for finding it. I found it over on the E90 Post side, but I liked the info it provided too.

Cheers.

First time BMW owner (2008 Z4 3.0si) so am thirsty for information. The website indicated our (it's my wife's) car was built on Aug 18th, 2008 in Spartanburg County, SC, one week before they shut down that manufacturing plant and transferred the 2009 Z4 2nd generation production to Regensburg, Germany.

Great info to learn!
