Thinking about a E90 to Z move..

Just in the thinking stage right now. But have received a lot of comments form a few of my buddies when I asked their opinion on the Z. I have never had a convertible and thought it would be fun, I am early 20's right now so keep that in mind. I have had a few people say guys shouldn't drive convertibles period, I wont listen to them.. But I had a few telling me the horror stories of other peoples soft tops getting knifed and people seem to vandalize them more.

So right now its between the Z4 M and the Z4 M coupe. I am leaning for the roadster but I have never had a convertible and wanted to know your input.

Let me guess what's going to happen here, the coupe owners are all going to tell you to get a coupe, and the roady guys will tell you to get the vert...although some of them secretly have coupe envy.

So let me start. GET THE COUPE!!!

Leave the verts to the ladies and get a fixed roof. Those coupes look nimble yet still maintain that aggresiveness that makes them appeal to us car guys...good luck.

I have the 328xi and the z4 roady. Nothing beats driving with the top down on a really nice day.

Bad news. They blue convertible they had listed at my dealer is no longer for sale.. All they have left is red (which I prefer not to get). And the coupe they have is black with brown interior and I am not really found of that either.. I wish they had a black/ anything else but brown or a white or a blue coupe or convertible left.

Actually, for someone young and single, I'd recommend the coupe if it's an only car. In fact, I'd recommend the 3.0si over the M for the improved trunk space, lower maintenance costs and better gas mileage.

I have absolutely ZERO desire to have a coupe. Esp. now when the highs are in the mid 70s and there are no clouds.
I don't know why people would pay more for a coupe when they can have a drop top for the same price or cheaper.

oh btw, get the roadSTAR.

Word. Every time I see a vert (99%) its a chick driving. Don't be that guy. Get the coupe.

For me, I love the lines on the hard top, I perfer the stiffer body that coupe offers over the vert and I simply have no need or desire for a droptop. I guess it comes down to each person's own preference right?

"Guys don't drive verts" is the silliest argument ever. I would have expected at least a more mature argument.

I have a feeling that when each individual looks at the coupe and roadster next to each other at the dealer, they are immediately attracted to one or the other. For me, it was the roadster. And I don't feel the need to bash coupe owners; I only smile while I fold my roof down at a stoplight.

Get the one that works for you, no point in asking us!

Have your dealer search for a car with the options you want or order a new one

I think it's preference, requirements, and intended use. I'll start by saying I like both - I currently have a roadster, and within the next week I should have a coupe (red or silver - I'll know within 24 hours).

If you plan to track the car at all, most organizations don'l like roadsters on the track, and it's simply physics that a coupe would perform better there.

I also would prefer a coupe if it were my only car and I lived in a temperate zone - driving my roadster in 4" of snow, single digit temps, and Chicago traffic - not my idea of fun. There's also security - being young and single often involves venturing into some dodgy areas if my own youthful indiscretions are any guide, and a coupe is better for that as well.

Overall, I think the roadster is best as a 2nd car unless you live in the south and travel very light.

As far as aesthetics, there's not much in it, in my experience. Both versions are head-turners, as any Z4 owner will tell you, and a roadster with the top down makes as strong a statement as the coupe.

I drove both the roadster and coupe version of the M. The roadster felt much softer than the coupe version. According to BMW, the coupe version is 2.5 times stiffer than the roadster and after driving both--hard, I agree. If performance is important to you, get the Coupe. If you want to show people how pretty you are, get the roadster.

How about if you like the roadster period, if you like the feeling and don't mind the 2.5 times stiffnes difference?

So you are saying Coupe (Manly, strong, prowerful, a pure shot of testosterone, look at me I'm a guy and I drive a coupe...it's 2.5 times stiffer)

A roadster (Whimpy, soft, girly, I'm sooo pretty, Oh my god look at my car),
Man were is your head at!!

They are both great cars..pick what you like, not what some one with a great level of complex feels on the other side of the world.

My .50 cents.
