nothing major. i've tested a few different products for paint, but have been disappointed thus far. rustoleum's grill paint is the most promising, but i have some weird textures from it. i think it's due to the low temperatures during application. i'm currently waiting for better weather.

in the mean time, i'm working on a few other projects in tandem with this. i've got the rear cover off the car and the aero skirts are out for paint. i was going to take the current mufflers off the car this week, but they're threatening nasty snows for thursday and that may stall that portion.

iowa winter is the delay in every instance. although, it wouldn't be so bad if my lazy wife would just hurry up and make the millions so i could afford a dedicated winter-proof shop and the time to tinker in it. what a bum!

LOL, you better tell her to get right on that... Have you thought about powder coating, since you're not really in a hurry right now? I don't think getting those powder coated would be very expensive, seeing how they're no bigger than a wheel.

i have, but haven't been able to find any reputable vendors locally. i guess that's my fault for living in iowa...

i did find a wheel repair place that would paint them in a high-temp paint, but when asked specifics about temps and colors i got a bit of a run around. then they told me it'd be $400. 20 min later i was browsing the rattle can options at lowes.

Send your wife out with a few bucks for something and hijack the oven while she's gone, she'll never know the difference!

I like the first one better. I don't really like the look of tapered tips on the M since the exhaust tips stand out quite a bit on the car, and the first ones look a lot nicer and better made.

Not sure why you would go with that since there are already two tips on the OEM setup?

Step One: Get your car dyno'd
Step Two: Post said dyno charts on Zpost showing 280whp

z3.2mc, I bought myself a set of used OEM mufflers and I'm going to attempt to do the mod this weekend.

What did you use to cut the lid off? Any other suggestions seeing how you've done this once?

You clearly do not understand how the ram effect works and the potential that it offers. Unless a static dyno has a speed-related fan which can simulate the real world situation when ram effect occurs, then a static dyno simply cannot record the true performance of a car with an intake which is designed to harness the ram effect to its full potential.

I always use ultra-thin cutting discs:http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trks...at=0&_from=R40

i used a rotozip with a 90* head on it. bosch makes cutting wheels good for 15-20k rpm that are fairly inexpensive (lowes ~ $3/ea). i used a total of 13 wheels to do both mufflers inside and out. do not exceed the max speed of the cutting wheels as they have a tendency to fly apart with the speed of a coked-up mongoose, sending shrapnel directly past your head and burying themselves into the garage wall behind you. the rotozip is great on the inside as well, but most of the heavy cutting inside was ultimately handled by my sawzall.

when cutting the lid, you'll notice 6 spot welds (2 rows of 3). i found it was easier for later reassembly to cut out each row entirely, in a long strip, rather than cut out each individual spot weld.

make sure you wear leather gloves and long sleeves when you handle the glass packing. and eye protection at all times!!! also, my wife was upset with me over the missing dust mask on my face... especially so after hacking up black stuff... so maybe one of those too.

Have you got any photos of the finished internal configuration you've done?

I use a plasma cutter to gut the internals of the silencers.

One. I like the solid look and the straight down instead of angled design.
