ESS Software

Has anybody run into problems with ess software? What is the risk factor? Can a dealer detect the tune?
Thanks

When your car is serviced the service interval is reset, not the entire computer. Unless you're having some serious engine troubles, the software/DME shouldn't ever be reprogrammed/replaced.

Rom3n: i still may be interested. i just bought my wheels, down payment on my wifes new 328, and i'm residing my house....all during these horrible financial times. so i am feeling a little guilt about spending and more $$ right now... however, i usually pay for these things with my 'funny money'... i do a little contract work on the side. i have a couple projects coming to an end in the next week or so hopefully... if so, i might just make this my last mod.

Not true, things like radios, any module in the car, car alarms, a few sensors ETC when replaced require reprogramming of the car.

You pay shipping but if you need a re-flash it is at no charge. The dealer wont re-do your software unless you are having an issue outside of normal service.

There's really nothing to think about. I've had mine for over a month and the car runs flawlessly. If you want a stronger, and smoother, engine, with noticeably more power, the ESS tune is great. The only downside is that after a few weeks you get used to the thing and forget how much better the car runs than before the flash. You just get used to driving a stronger M, one that does not have to back down from, but can keep up with, for example, 911 Carreras.

-Some people still don't believe that my MC keeps up with 996 GT3s in triple digit speeds

i just thought of something, with the redline raised, and you touch that mark (raised redline) bmw will know because your car went passed the stock redline. Can't BMW track all information on rpms and stuff like that? See what i am saying correct me if i am wrong.

Thumbs up

I just got my ECU back from ESS on Saturday and all I can say is WOW!!! I was a little unsure about this mod at first but i am a true believer now!! The chip makes the car feel and act like it should have from the factory, JUST RAW POWER. I highly recomend this chip to anyone who loves to drive this car but just wants a little more. Don't have the money.... STEAL IT because you will not regret getting this done.

Also ESS was awesome to deal with. I sent my ECU out on a thursday and had it back on my door step that Saturday morning.
