Pop and burble sound
I hear pop/burble from time to time on my 3.0i if it's in sport mode, but how can I get this sound louder and with more regularity under normal driving conditions? What's the easiest/cheapest way to achieve this sound without being too loud (e.g. without putting in supersprints)?

So this sound is strictly a result of the amount of air flow through the exhaust and has nothing to do with your airbox or anything else in the engine bay? I think SS are too loud and straight pipes are illegal, so maybe I can try to weld an aftermarket generic muffler. I'm just scared the sound will be horrible and I don't like wasting money experimenting on things like this.

I got it with exhaust, x-pipe made it more pronounced and headers made it a regular occurrence.

Your option is to modify the exhaust substantially.
I wanted the same thing, so I started with a Dinan aftermarket muffler. It honestly made hardly any difference other than deepening the tone a weeeeee bit. Headers made all the difference and I am in love with the sound. Budget $600 - $2000 and you can get a custom or aftermarket setup that will pass emissions and get the sound your after. Obviously the more you spend the better the quality of work and parts. Simple and cheapest change would be to get rid of the rear muffler all together. Pop onto youtube and type in Z4 exhaust. Have a listen and go from there. |

My Son just got a "fix it" ticket for the Flowmaster on his Ram 1500.
We're totally bummed. No more ear bacon for him. My car's even louder. Have to be careful. I don't want to have to "fix" $2000 in exhaust mods.

I removed my muffler. Straight pipes from the 2nd cat back. Pops and burbles all day.

Different engine here but I took out my secondary cats, I get a very subtle pop and burble lifting from 3000rpm. I'd follow dbarton's instructions he tried many combos prior to his final set up
Also, I sent you a pm a while back twix |

Great suggestions everyone. Unfortunately I'm relocating my family next month for a temporary job assignment. I was getting ready to take the Z out of hibernation Memorial Day weekend, but now it looks like my driving season is only going to be 3 weeks before I need to put it back into storage. I need to subscribe to this thread and look at it again when I come home next year.
