Lacking Stowage lock in Roadster

I am the 2nd owner of the car and I'm not sure if PO removed it.
I do not have the center stowage lock (between the seats under the storage switch cover) nor the Tongue at the end of the soft top.

I can't figure out how these to lock into or unlock with power top, as my hydraulic motor is out

Car build date is 05/30/06, am not sure if later year cars are deliberately made without them due to squeaking noises.

#3 in the picture (Tongue at the latch)

Does having these two make the top flush and locked safe when the top is down?

Are these really necessary?

I understand that for 2006 and later roadsters that part was deleted from the design. Folks -feel free to jump in if I’m wrong.

I think that is correct. I have the same car as you, and my build date was 3/2006, and it doesn't have that part. I think there is a thread somewhere about eliminating a squeak in that area, and earlier Z4's had it, but post facelift cars don't.

As for the center storage compartment lock, I am the 2nd owner of the car and the PO unplugged it.
I decided to leave well enough alone.
I'm guessing they had it get stuck, as well as the gas fill flap.
Lock's gone off that too.
Neither one will stop a determined thief. Just make them cause more damage.
