Question Denied 2nd gear at last track day.

First of all, I want to be clear that this is unrelated to the famous 1st-to-2nd denial at high RPM.

There was a turn where I needed to downshift to 2nd and half the time I just couldn't get it in. Same technique; always rev-matched. 2nd gear has always been notchy for me and it takes a good deal of experience to "feel" it, but that didn't even help me this time. Could this be related to transmission fluid and/or too hot gearbox? The fluid (Redline) was changed in May 2013 and this was my first track day since then.

Friggin embarrassing in front of the turn official!

I'll add that it started to happen toward the end of the day, and it's never happened since (off track).

There are many posts on this topic.
I had this happen regularly at one particular track at the same corner.

short story
- upgrade tranny mounts
- RP synchromax in the tranny
- upgrade the engine mounts
- & for me the AutoSolution shifter also helped

I dont even think about this issue anymore, it never happens now unless its driver induced

I already have the trans mounts and AutoSolutions SSK. Will look into the engine mounts and synchromax. Thanks!

I've had this happen too at the end of the day when the transmission was hot. I've upgraded the engine mounts since and will see if there's any change at the next track day....

i replaced engine mounts and tranny mounts in one days, and it was like driving a complete diff car. AND my mounts didn't show any need to replace, but it sure was time to do so..
