Exhaust Recommendations
Looking for opinions here...would like to get a little more growl from my 2008 3.0i. Options I am considering:
Eisenmann Sport Remus Supersprint I am NOT looking for just loud noise...I want some nice low end growl, great sound on acceleration, and decent price. To that last point, happy to hear recommendations for where to buy. Thanks |

I think I am going to hold off for a year. I am 100% convinced that I either want a white/sepang or sepang/sepang and the only one I have seen so far is in BC. I just don't feel like flying to and driving a car back right now.
I just love my green/tan too much, I think that's my problem. Maybe in a year I'll want the extra power more than the colour combo! Too bad you'll miss our cruise by one day. I think you should fly back a day early to hit the last day of the wine festival with us |

I hear ya about the green/tan; its a great combo.
...I don't know much about the 3.0si exhaust systems to offer any suggestions.

All comments are IMO, and YMMD: I haven't heard an Eisenmann on any BMW that I didin't think sounded fantastic. Remus tends to be a bit reserved, and not that much more than stock, Supersprint usually sounds great, race is usually just that, really loud on the Supersprint.
Here's another alternative. |

I had been leaning towards the Remus, glad you mentioned that its not much more than stock. One clip on YouTube made em sound pretty good. Thanks |

If you really get on the Remus hard, it's noticeable. But in every day driving, and at idle, it's not that much. (I went Remus because of impending header and x-pipe install). If you want something that's a bit more growl and noticeable, but no drone, Eisenmann sport models seem to do that very well.

Just found out that in Ontario I cannot remove the cats for the Magnaflow setup...too bad. Apparently its a $20,000 fine for either me or the muffler shop...no messing around.
OK then, back to the question of Eisenmann vs Supersprint (assuming Remus may not be quite what I want). Which of these two for my 3.0i considering I just want a little more growl and a great sound on accel....not looking for anything loud enough to tick off the neighbours. If not one of these two, still open to suggestions. Thx |

That link that Finnegan posted...if you check it out, it has a slick Magnaflow system but the muffler sits where the cats are. I think the issue is trying to fit a generic muffler into the OEM muffler space.

Yeah, I've heard the Stebros. They are actually made in Ottawa...talked to them already and can pick one up for $650 cash. I think from what I have read that they have a quality control issue...many have received taken delivery and been disappointed with quality. Still, for $650...maybe.

The main problem with replacement of the muffler only is primarily resonance. BMW and some of the aftermarket providers have spent significant time and money to deal with this issue and that's why just slapping on any one of the hundreds of cans out there doesn't get the job done. The time and effort that goes into tuning an exhaust system addresses gas flow and acoustics. We don’t want an exhaust which vibrates the car interior, gives us a headache, and prevents normal conversation. Fine for a track car, not so for most of us.
It’s fairly well accepted that for our (street driven) cars, axle back replacements do nothing for horsepower gains and are simply acoustic mods with potentially some weight savings. Like many, I would like a little bit more volume and character then the oe exhaust, but not at the expense of mega dollars or my hearing. As I posted on the other current thread addressing exhaust mods for non-M cars, I don’t think the resonator/secondary cat issue has been definitively resolved yet. http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthre...=687247&page=2 If these are cats, then not much we can do, however if they are resonators then we have a number of options.

Thanks guys...great info for sure!
I think that to save headaches, I am just not going to bother looking into the Magnaflow setup as shown in the other thread. I am going to go with either Remus or Eisenmanm...leaning towards Remus at this point. Thanks gain! |
