Started for the first time.

Hey,

I started my Z4 today(last time was middle of Feb.) and there was this clicking noise - is this normal for a car that has been off the road for several months? Has anyone else had this happen and did it resolve itself or did you have to take it to the dealership?
I checked the oil level and it's fine.

Looking for some advice?

Thanks

cold engine = cold oil.. Takes a second for it to circulate up to the top of the motor..

How long did it click/tick for?

^this issue u are describing is commonplace with the n52 engine in ur 3.0si. here's bmw's official sib specifically addressing this issue, and if u're able to recreate the ticking symptoms at ur local dealership, u could have the valve lifters replaced under warranty.

r4gs: Thanks for the info.
My only problem is that i have take it back to a US dealer for warranty.
Would it harm the engine driving the 200 miles to the dealer?

^no, the ticking noise does no harm to the engine unless it is omnipresent even after the engine warms up etc. i would recommend u consider carefully before taking it to the dealer unless u're absolutely sure u can recreate the symptoms, since i had a friend take his 328i to the dealership 150 miles away twice now and has been unsuccessful getting any kind of resolution to the matter. alternatively, u could try the steps prescribed in the sib urself and see if tt helps.

I was going to ask why you would take it back to the USA, but I see you have it sorted.
