In my years in public safety service, I've never known a cop to give a ticket for it. It's also against the law here to spit on the sidewalks but, no one gets a ticket for doing it.
However, if you're nailed for public drunkeness and you're a ass and spit at the officer or on the ground in front of him, I'm sure you'd get that added to the list of offences...and you'd deserve it. |

How can the police catch you? Do they have X-ray vision to see whether you're wearing shoes or not? And if they pull you over, you can just throw your shoes back on! That's a weird law.

So cute takedown . If they pull you over for a different violation such as speeding or a tailight out, and they see you're driving with no shoes, it's just something they can add to the ticket. But most won't do it unless you're really being an ass or being difficult ie; drunk driving and being obnoxious.

Yeah, but that's if you got into your car with no shoes at all....which is a bit odd 'cause that means you're gonna be barefoot at whatever destination you're heading to.
If your shoes are on your matt or your driver's side matt, you just slip 'em on again if you get pulled over. I can't believe we're even discussing this to this extent! |

I drive barefoot almost all the time in the warm weather. It is so much better, you can feel more a part of the car, and so much more in control. In NJ it is NOT illegal to drive barefoot.

Oh, and it works just as well with socks too, so for those of you that have silly laws prohibiting barefoot driving, try it in your socks!

And one last thing, if you make a rule that everyone has to take their shoes off before they get in your car, your carpets stay cleaner too!

i've been driving barefoot during the summer since i got the Z. When I have to wear shoes driving, i have to continually adjust the seat position because some times i have on 3 or 4 inch heels and others i have on tennis shoes. Also, it does keep the carpet clearner.
With a manual, the seat position is critical...well that or I am a bad driver. In any case I prefer barefoot for these reasons. And a cop friend told me that he can stop people for not wearing seat belts if he can see your not wearing one and fail to put it on before he approaches the car. With shoes they would need to have x-ray vision to be able to tell. But generally I think it is true that they don't go hunting down people that have no seatbelt and wear no shoes...they've got better things to do. Rosie

The way that I shift when I really want to get on it, I can't go barefoot. Would end up bruising the hell out my clutch foot Guess it would be fine if I was just out for a leisurely cruise, unfortunately I don't do that very often.

Okay, not sure if you are being facetious or not, but I will answer. No, you take off your shoes prior to entering the house and set them just inside the doorway. As someone already posted, they may have slippers available for you to wear, or not. I spent a year there and never really figured out the reason for it, and really didn't care to find out the underlying reason.
