"sticky" Convertible Top?
My top seems to work fine except for the fact that is occasionally "sticks" a little bit when lowering it - but just at the very beginning. Like the first time I open it for the day sometimes I can hear the hooks come open and the motor pulling on the top, but nothing happens. Then I slightly tap up on the top right above the rear view mirror and the top pops up and then retracts like it should.
I can then open and close it like normal and it works just fine. It is almost like someone spilled jelly in between the top and the windsheld and it is just a little sticky. I cleaned the whole area there and put armor all on all the seals and they all look great, but I still get it sometimes. Anyone else ever had this and found something that worked? I did some searches, but I may not be using the right wording to find the fix. Maybe I just do not understand where the problem lies. |

I had this problem three summers ago.
It's easily curable with a can of spray white lithium grease. You need to spray a bit of grease on the two rollers in the top of the window frame and also the two hooks on the leading edge of the canvas top. And voila - fixed easy peasy. Be careful to not spray too much grease and to wipe away the excess. You could also get a 1/4 inch artist brush, spray it, and use it to apply the grease to avoid making a mess on the car. Cheers!!

LOL - Mine is always parked inside and where I live. I live in the country where loose cats do not last long. Luckily I am not in the city where the cat owners do not control their pets.
Thanks for the grease tip - I will give it a whirl!!! Sucks to have my new Smarttop remote open installed, yet have to walk over and "punch" my top to get it to open anyway! Last edited by unluky; 12-30-2013 at 02:16 PM.. |

Mine had this problem as well. Does your roof "slam" home when closing? Closes normal then when it gets about 5 inches from the window, bang! it slams home? Greasing did help, but make sure it's not part of a bigger issue like streatched or worn straps. - http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthre...ght=roof+slams

Nope, except for the initial "struggle" to open, everything else moves smooth as silk. Bought some WLG at lunch, so I will lube it up once I get home and see how that works.
Thanks for the help! |
