'05 Z4 2.5i mods for noobs
OK. Going for new stuff on my lowly 2.5i:
1) Ordered the Sound Generator which is standard on the same year 3.0. Cheap thrills from engineered sound... 2) Ordered the Aux In cable but intend to install it on the panel beneath the AC controls using the Z4 2007 panel, also ordered. 3) Ordered the Alarm System w/motion detector. 4) Picked up a Homelink remote garage opener and intend to custom install on the same panel as the Aux In connection. All pretty easy installs, relatively speaking. I'll take picks, good and bad, and post here. Anyone with cautions or well wishes are welcome. Hope to start on this Saturday, March 29th. __________________ Pat Casey 2005 Z4 2.5i Sterling gray w/black interior and black top. Premium package, steptronic, leather, xenon, and BMW Sirius radio |

Well wishes. I will do the homelink as soon as I have a home to link to
I couldn't live without my AUX in. I use it all the time! Literally.

Just one caution-be extremely careful when wiring the vehicle. It is easy to chafe a wire and you will find untold problems if you do that. Trying to find a chaffed wire can take up most of an afternoon and will show up in the most unlikely places.

Your likely better off just wiring a push button for your garage door opener (connected to the leads on the opener itself) using the garage door opener's battery power rather than your car's. A simple push button can be picked up for $5 or less at a hardware store. I installed this on my motorcycle and it's great!

I am curious about this push button rather than a homelink? I am thinking about doing the homelink as it seems easy, but where would you mount the push button setup?

With regards to the sound generator, you can take out the piece of foam that sits in the tube (close to the firewall) and get a dramatic increase in volume. It's like adding a CAI or aftermarket exhaust. Good luck with the mods!
