New Clutch

Thinking of a new clutch plate. Anyone have any reccs? UUC has a few offerings, anyone used one of theirs?

What's causing this itch if you don't mind me asking? Is your current clutch slipping already?

After 60k, I'm still annoyed by the inconsistency of the self-adjusting clutch. Sometimes it's great and the friction point is spot on; other times it seems to be a moving target. I've also read that this clutch was designed for the 3.0i/si or something like that...

I'm not liking how my clutch engages at times. There was that one thread about the gritty feel (perhaps due to flywheel; or perhaps just the friction surface of the clutch plate itself, who knows), and I'm looking at swapping the stock units out as well in due time. Going to wait until there's more info on aftermarket applications and more long-term usage/comparison.

I had an ACT Stage 3 Six-Puck unsprung clutch kit coupled with Fidanza lightweight flywheel and GFB lightweight crank pulley on my MR2 turbo, and although that setup engaged very abruptly, at least it was consistent and reliably put down power.

ill be going with a hpf uprated unit....

OP FYI, the clutch we have in our car is identical to the e46 m3 units with a lower spline count as the only difference.... these clutches are actually very nice stock units, But if your replacing id agree and run an uprated unit, this is not a 3.0si unit however...

I'd actually heard it was not the same as the e46 m3, but where did you find evidence of this?

i had this part in my hands and physically compared it to an m3 unit... They are the same bar a lower spline count...
The gearbox itself is from the 3.0si however.

Diameter on the 3.0si is only 228mm on the flywheel & clutch.

Diameter on the E46 M and E85/6 M is both 240mm. Even though part #s don't match up exactly it's a better assumption that it is the same as the E46 M

Out of curiosity, what purpose does lowering the spline count serve?

Beedub, did you upgrade your clutch during sc installation?

i dont really know why they did that, maybe to mate up to the 3.0l Si Gearbox setup????

No i didnt upgrade my clutch, it was at the shop and another z4m their was having his clutch swapped out... i was lucky enough to be able to see this happening and compare the clutch to their e46 m3 shop cars unit (spare for racing)

my car has minimal miles on it so id expect the clutch to last quite abit longer, despite the extra power it seems to have a great deal of life left, TQ is a clutch killer, even supercharged were not making massive Tq by any means, one of the things i love about the centri blowers, the Tq/hp is very progressive for the drivetrain and motor :-)

i will however change it to a HPF unit in when it shows signs of weakness :-)
