If you could find somewhere that sells the mounting plate then you could weld it to your new intake.
It was easy for my last car since it shared the same maf mount as a wrx.

I'm not sure if they make those for an E46 or Z4M though. Then you would still have to weld one onto a pipe and I wouldn't want to have a fabbed up connector for the MAF meter and then have it throw codes b/c it's not positioned correctly. To better illustrate what I'm looking for, here is a picture of an E46 M3 airbox.[IMG][/IMG]
I need this measurement. If this is the same as the Z4M (roughly 3.5" I think) then the K&N that fits the M3 should fit the Z4M (minus the M3's heatshield of course). Then just fab up a heatshield and boom, you have an afe for half the cost. |

K&N typhoon intake for the M3 is in. Needed to modify it a bit, but it works. 2 days, no codes yet. Nasty growl under the hood now and saved about $250 vs aFe!

No problem.
Yup same diameter as M3. Other than modifying the supplied M3 heat shield a bit and adding to it with 26g sheet metal, the only tough part was getting the Z4M's maf screen to fit into the K&N pipe. It was a tight fit, but it went in. The cone filter sits right in front of the stock cold air intake too. Hope to have pics up tomorrow. Last edited by 850tgul; 07-27-2010 at 09:22 PM.. |

Looks good. Any issues with fitment with the hood closed? Looks like the MAF sensor is sticking up.

ha ha, it's coming. I'm pondering whether or not it would be beneficial to create a cover in an attempt to further block heat. It's tricky b/c on one hand I want to block as much heat as possible obviously, but on the other I fear that if I enclose it too much it will shield the nice noise I gained and I might as well put the stock box back in. I'm hesitating only b/c I have felt no loss of power whatsoever with the way it is now.
