I'm assume there's a limit to how many BMWNA is giving out; they dealer probably has to submit a form to them and then they'll send you the gift-card.

I'm guessing we won't get our $50 Fill-up Card until after we get a sales pitch and do the test drive.
The BMW Test Drive Guidelines call for:
"Start with your current car: Take it for a test drive
to establish a baseline for your experience. Try to
be as objective as possible.
• Schedule a test drive. This ensures that a Client
Advisor will be available to spend an appropriate
amount of time with you when you arrive.
• It’s a good idea to schedule several test drives
for the same day, so you can compare different
models back-to-back, while they’re fresh in your
mind. Be sure to give yourself at least one hour
with each vehicle.
l Real-world driving: It’s important that your test
drive simulates the way you really drive. If your
daily commute involves a lot of highway driving,
be sure to take your test vehicle on the highway.
l Bring a friend. They can provide a sounding
board to discuss features and benefits."

This is similar to the time-share condo sales pitch where you are tortured for an hour and then get a dinner at Denny's.

I test drove the X5 3.0i and 4.8i today, the whole process was about 1 hour and 45 minutes although 15 minutes of that was the sales manager chatting me up.

Did you get your $50 Fill-up card?
My local store, BMW Seattle, has reponded with two emails wanting to set up a test drive. I want to test the E89 Z4 sDrive35i with the DCT and they don't have one in inventory.

I called my sales girl about it (she knows I have no interest in buying a car right now); she said she has the forms, so just to come in this weekend and I can test drive anything I want while there.

The card will be sent to you automatically (could take up to 8 weeks). The sales person needs to electronically state that you came in for the test drive and that sets the process in motion for getting the card.

I submitted the website request and, as expected, am being bombarded with emails and phone calls from dealer sales staff. Is all this attention really worth one tank of gasoline?
I think not since I have no intention of buying a new Bimmer. Why waste my time and that of a sales person for a tank of gas.

I signed up to drive the new Z4 and only put in my E-mail address so I don't have to worry about phone calls. I figure one car should only take an hour and I don't know about the rest of you but I don't make $50 an hour driving bimmers, so not a bad way to make some money.

Don't hold your breath for that $50 gas card. I just got back from my dealer and he read me the bulletin they received about the Amex promotion. The promotion was intended for a limited specific target market who were sent invitations by mail to participate in the offer. As with many things these days, it immediately went viral via twitter/facebook/forums etc and BMW was overwhelmed with responses.

In short, in order to qualify you need to have the invitation from the mail. Notice the wording from the website link:
Quote:
Offer valid for original mailed recipients of BMW NA American Express™ Fill It Up Card program communications. Offer invalid for individuals not originally contacted by BMW or who receive the offer via a 3rd party source.

Finally, something that makes sense in this thread

I was trying to figure out who would give away money for nothing...turns out, not even BMW
