Yes, the expensive bit for the E46 M3/Z4M is the valve adjustment, which can be a couple of grand on its own.

I believe the book time for a M inspection II is 11hrs. I think they include the better part of 6 of that for the valve adjustment. Don't quote me on that but the non-M inspection II should be at least $600-800 cheaper than the M just on labor alone. Not to mention the oil and other supplies are less as well.
