I got mine replaced under warranty as well. But it was because a lot of dust was getting through the clear plastic.

Remove that and then you can wiggle the speedo out,
Helps if you have the steering wheel pulled out and down, There is one or two electrical connectors in the back of the speedo, they are pretty simple to remove,

Then you need a smaller torx driver to take apart the speedo housing, somewhere between 6 and 10, Its been a while but again this isn't too hard,
I remember the plastic clips after you have removed the torx screws being harder to seperate,

Then the front of the speedo with the 2 plastic lenses your trying to clean will pull away and you can clean them

I would have loved to guide you with pictures but I don't need to take mine out so your gonna just have to figure it out with words

But its really not hard at all!
Well I got the speedo out, but I have only one connector a white one which I tried to slightly lift and push over the tab it wont budge and since its plastic the last thing I want to do is bust it. I know this is not rocket science but would someone please give me a tip, I just don't want to break anything getting that electrical connector lock off

Thanks any help would be appreciated.

Hi !

The connector have a locking system. That's a white plastic lever ( if I remember well )...
You should gently lift ( lift from the back of speedo ) the white part and the connector will be out of the speedometer.

Hope that it will help you. And sorry for my poor english...!!!

Thanks Jean for the help, but I just sit there for a few minutes looking at it and decided, what the heck go get a beer and come back. Well perhaps the beer did it but the lock has a small tab in front of it, if its slightly depressed the entire arm will rotate over it and release the connector. Just have to be careful when you put back together so the lock lines up with the curved groved so when its push back it will pull the whole assembly back down onto the connections and then lock.

I did get it cleaned up and now it looks awesome!

Thanks for your help.

Hope this helps the next person who wants to do this. These are a few pictures showing what to remove and which clips hold the covers in place.

First you only really have to remove the two screws in the center, very small torx. These hold the right and left bezels in place.

This is the clip on hte bottom that holds the cover in place. DO not pry on the ones on the top, these are part of the cover, you will however need to push them(gently) under the lip to get the cover out.

Showing the front clips uder the trim bezel, lighting makes it look bad...

This is the other clip along the side of the spedo, you need to release the bottom and also push it underneath the outter trim, again be gentle.

This is what it looks like after it is free, right now the bezel will come out.

I used soft Q-Tips and a good quality glass cleaner.

Before cleaning (Yuck).

After cleaning (Yummy)

Yeah, thanks for the pics as well. I don't have this issue yet but sounds like it may arise in the future.

Another one which cleaned their speedo cover, looks great now. Scared myself briefly when plugging in the electrical connection and it started to whir and click....no problems once everything was fully installed. Thanks for the diy.

So any theories on how the "stains" get into a sealed instrument cluster?

Maybe some of the plastic gassing as it ages. Certainly looked well sealed.

They aren't sealed.

It's mainly dust, from what I've seen

I'm going to do mine in the spring.

I think it's a bigger problem on the ragtops though.

Mine didn't look like dust, more like a residue layer/film.
