Power mirror switch, Z4M.

Apologies, but I've searched high and low and cannot find an answer to this seemingly simple question.

The power mirror switch has gone out on my Z4M (first failure of anything in a Z4M for me ever yay!!). Neither power mirror will work, so no doubt it my mind it's the switch. Windows still work, up/down.

Question. How do I remove this switch? Do I need to take the entire door card off, or is at easy as putting a trim tool in there and popping the switch out? I'd like to know before I start pulling/prodding so as not to break anything else.

Thanks!

If you do have to take the door card off, look for Bavarian Soundwerks' Youtube video on the door speaker install. Make sure you disconnect the battery so you don't end up with an airbag light.

Good tip, I really appreciate it. If I have to take the door card off for this, I'll probably just skip it. Power mirrors aren't that big of a deal to me, if anything I'll just save it for a future date when I'll probably have to take the whole door apart anyway (appearance mod, window won't go down, etc.).

Still holding out hope it just pops out! Thanks again.

Thanks Vanne, I was going to refurb the switch covers as well (wrap them in the carbon vinyl like the rest of my interior). I'm really surprised with all the knowledge out there about the Z4, something simple like this door switch really hasn't been discussed.

Please chime in anyone who knows, thanks!

I don't think taking out the door card is that hard. I haven't done it though.

Removing the door card is easily done. 2 screws at the door pull handle, 1 screw at the door opening handle, 1 screw behind the ABS emblem. You may need to tug quite hard to get the plastic push connectors to release if its the first time off.
Expect to break a few plastic push connectors though.
I have to do this again(I replaced my interior 2 years ago) due to my switch being NFG. Try the fuse box first fuse #8 I believe, mine was blown but did not help.

You can get used switches on ebay for around $80. I got one locally for that much.

The switches and cover plate come out easily once the card is off and can actually be removed with the card on with some persuasion.

Or find that they're already broken.
Two sizes are used. Shorter white ones, and almost imperceptibly longer yellow ones.

Get a sack of each before you start.

Have you checked your fuses?

I had mine go out this winter when I tried moving them about. Give those a check.

Could also be the wires. IIRC there are two connectors on that module, one for the mirrors and one for the windows. I'd take off the door card and make sure it's not just the connector coming loose or a cut wire before buying a new module.
