FAQ Thread Requests: Quality Indie Shops

Given the complexity of working on the S54 and that the 06s are coming off warranty, I think we should keep the FAQ thread up-to-date with a list of shops that have the right skills and tools to work on this engine. The goal here is to provide forum members with a resource of shops in the US and Canada (or beyond) that meet requirements.

Right now this mainly means the camshaft bolt issue, which looks like it requires some but not all of the special tools and experience working with this engine. More extensive work that requires re-timing the engine means a much more extensive list of tools (based on O-Cha's post here.

My draft shot at the qualifications for adding a shop to the FAQ thread should be (I'd really like O-Cha's review and approval of the list) would be:

Has the right set of tools
Have sufficiently skilled and experienced mechanics
Have successfully completed the work on forum member's car (or another S54 the forum member has direct knowledge of)

Tools for Camshaft Bolts:

Solenoid Tool
Pre-Tensioner

Tools for Re-Timing--special tools (if these have names, that would probably be better):

• 11 7 130
• 11 7 160
• 11 7 200
• 11 7 342
• 11 9 130
• 11 9 140
• 11 9 170
• 12 6 050
