Personally speaking I find the 1 series hideous regardless if they came out with an M version. To me the Z4 M Coupe is probably one of the most beautiful and timeless cars BMW has ever come out with, so trading this for a 1 M would definitely be out of the question.

Why would I get a slower car? Also, probably for the difference I'd have to pay to trade-up, I can get a BBK and SC.
On the looks department, Z4 M is the classic sports car. Mile long hood rules. 1 series is a crashed 3 series and I don't even like the 3 series... |

I wouldn't bet on the 1M being slower. My guess is that the 0-60 will be somewhere around 4.5-4.6. The heavier z4 35is with the same engine as the 1M is listed on the BMW website at 4.8 sec's.

Yeh plus those engines are like 1 flash tune away from making tons more power and running very decent 1/4 mile times. I would assume handling for the 1M would also be pretty amazing.

Oh HELL no. Lots of reasons for me, aside from the fact that I have no desire to unload my Z4M for ANYTHING else. The 1M just isn't desirable to me at all. The problematic direct injection (carbon buildup problems, HPFP problems that have been around since 2007 and STILL haven't been solved), hideously high oil temps, and forced induction. Not interested in any of those traits. Also, the car is fugly as hell. It's too bad the US doesn't get the hatchback model that Europe does, and is surprising given the much better climate for hatchbacks here than in the past. BMW is probably still smarting from the massive fail that was the 318ti experiment here in the mid-90's.

I still don't like how the car looks. Looked awkward for me when I was looking at 135i's and now looks more odd with super wide fenders...Idk why it is odd for me but just is. It just isn't as sexy as my z4mc either. Like others said, for the price for me to trade, I could almost get ESS SC, Stoptechs, KW Clubsports plus maybe a 4.10 gear which would make the car untouchable for the other M's.

Overall, the 1er really isn't a desirable exotic looking car. Sure, it'll have proper power and possibly handling, but there's no charm to the car. It's just too common and conservative.
Call me a snob, but it would be a downgrade from the Z4M. If I started from scratch, I'd still be looking at an MC over a 1M |

Nope. *E30 M3 had a 3.0 to 3.2l NA inline 4 developed in 14 days. Giving it the engine designation S14. *Wife as an '88 and it's a blast to drive, but I still love the Hp of my newer cars.

E30 M3 had a 2.3 liter 16 valve I4 engine. I think it was BMW's first 4-valve/cylinder engine. It was considered high-tech for the '80's.

Who says it'll weigh in about the same as the Z4M?
First of all, the 135i already weighs about 150 lbs more than the MZ4C. With a beefed up rear subframe, bigger brakes, bigger wheels, and a beefed up suspension typical of an ///M treatment, the 135i would likely weigh north of 3,500 lbs. Easily in excess of 300 lbs heavier. Unless official specs has been published to suggest that the 1M magically LOST WEIGHT, which has never happened at BMW, the 135i isn't going to be nearly the match dynamically to the MZ4 coupe or roadster. Second, I don't care how much HP can potentially make, it doesn't have the individual throttle bodies and the high revving nature of the S54...And it certainly hasn't been well tested at the track, I've yet to see an N54 engined car driven by a capable driver last more than a dozen laps on track without going into heat related limp mode yet. Putting all aesthetics aside, the 1M (or whatever they want to call it) is a far cry from the great ///M cars BMW use to make, much less the PINNACLE of BMW ///M Chassis. |

I think we should excommunicate anyone who votes to trade their coupe.

Jeez you young guys are showing your age. The first BMW twin cam 4 valve per cylinder engine was of course the M88 engine of the famous M1, produced from 1978 to 1981. BMW used much of the cylinder head design from the M1 when they developed the 4 cylinder DOHC engine in the E30 M3. The final evolution of the M88 was the S38B38, found in the 1992-1995 Euro E34 M5, producing 335 HP.

the only reason I would consider it is b/c of the back seat...but even then I'd most likely pick up an 997 again and if the back seat don't matter the cayman is lightyears ahead of the 1m in chassis refinement

i like the 1 series maybe for a second car,one to drive on the rainy days since im a m car fanatic. Having had 5, lol maybe ill trade my evo or the s2000 in on one. out of all the makes and models of cars ive owned BMW is the best and easiest to own but no i wouldnt trade the m coupe in on one but i would like to own one since there small, quick, nimble and still have a backseat and im guessing a dct transmission that makes for great daily driving.

From what I've read, there is no DCT option at all.
