E46 GTR Build - S65 Transplant
So a good friend of mine is building a E46 GTR. S65 engine, SMG to 6MT, CA legalization hoops to jump through (cats, smog, referee), engine mount fabrication, new steering design? etc.
While this isn't a Z4 I figured I'd share. The ECU, wiring harness, and sensor and coding nightmare might prove helpful to someone. We're taking a team approach to this not a one man type operation. 5 team members at this point. And a couple of teen-age go-fers. Last edited by Finnegan; 12-05-2017 at 03:23 AM.. |

Torque procedure later (if I'm there to document, work is ongoing and I'm not there every work-session).
With the engine on a stand and upside down this is much easier than the usual method. Below. Transmission clean up (that's a team member). Bearing extraction. Last new shells roughed in (no torque). Note the "V" in the piston for rod movement. Note wear on top shells vs bottom. |

Isn't the E85/E86 wiring much closer to the E90 than to the E46? I think wiring the S65 into the E85 should be much easier than into the E46.
