It's true. The Z3 has them, Z4 does not. Pretty sure my E46 doesn't have them either. Seem to have stopped after the E36 era.

Not true, my z4 has them, just on the bottom left side of the front window.. There is a see through slot that has the vin. Also stamped into the front left shock tower. At least on mine ; )
