wannabe Z4 coupe owner in Toronto
WARNING: PLEASE START WITH THE LAST MESSAGE. I AM SHOOTING FOR A THREAD RESURRECTION GUINESS RECORD!
Hi, crowd I'll start off with saying I'm from Toronto, Canada. I was offered a good deal on an imported Z4 coupe 3.0si from US. What is the good place I can get a pre-purchase inspection on it? Not sure I want to pay a full retail price at a BMW dealership. Where do you repair your car in GTA (Toronto)? Last edited by jimmi1977; 08-06-2022 at 12:23 AM.. Reason: added a warning note :) |

Well, with current gas prices, I was looking for some fuel efficiency. So I specifically chose 3.0si over //M due to it's great gas mileage, and performance is just enough for me.
So, any good shop recommendations? |

well, i use my car as a toy drive it a few months a year as im hardly in town.
its a fast rough car that saves gas already compared to a porsche 911 and it depends on how u rev the car and make gear changes during daily driving my point if view, if u care about mileage so u prob care about selling value later. normal coupe dont think many would want one when they can pick up an m for similar price the coupe looks abit uglier on the bumpers join the family buddy the m coupe is a car u can keep forever its not expensive and on the weekends when u wann leave the kids home and go golfing it will make ur golfing more fun i got mine end 2006 for 80k+ mine has a new engine and how much is it worth on the market? 35000 cad? hahah so as i said its a keeper and when i do get a gt3 later im still keeing this for track strip it down

Hey, thanks for welcoming
I'm buying it for 18k (admittedly, it has a very high mileage, but very well kept), don't think I can even dream about 2006 //M coupe in this price range. I was shopping for mini cooper S or mazdaspeed miata, actually, I just happened to get a deal on Z4. I'm already outta of my price range I intended for a summer car. But, when I saw it, I couldn't resist. And, besides, one of the main factors for buying this car were it's looks. In this regard, Mcoupe is no different from 3.0SI |

jimmi either way its good its a z4 hope to see u driving around u maybe the only one in gta with a coupe thats not an m. buts that special
hope u get it. better than a cooper s. my rationale is if you r gonna go impractical then go all the way. z4 is really one of the most impractical cars out there haaha even a 911 has 4 seats

I do have a carfax. One-owner vehicle, no accidents, lot's of documented maintenance. Looks good.
As for debadging, I'm ok with it. People who own Z4s surely would know the difference. But I've seen very baffled looks from fellow drivers when I was test driving it, which I like. |

BMW Canada made the decision based on the highest Global M consumption as a % of BMW purchases here. I saw my first non M Coupe during a transfer at Amsterdam's Airport Schiphol in September 2006... Didn't get it and still don't...

Given the right price and options, I'd buy a non-M Coupe as a second car!
My garage would look nice with a roadie and coupe!

Welcome to the board.
I am a 3.0si driver and I have to live with the daily embarassment of not having an M car; its quite a burden. Especially when I see the folks in the Prius, staring at my car. What can they think of me? Or the hot blonde who followed me for three miles on Friday afternoon, staring at my inadequate roadster? And then there was the man and wife strolling down the street yesterday afternoon who who were so shocked at my non-M that they both tripped as they watched me drive by. And who can forget the guy who was so disgusted by my non-M that he piled into the back of the car in front of him one fall Sunday afternoon a while back as my wife took the car for a spin. And as you can see from this review, the performance of the 3.0si must be terrible. I mean, clearly the reviewer is being sarcastic in the extreme when he describes the performance of the 3.0si here. http://www.auto123.com/en/bmw/z4/200...00&artid=90628 Does this guy think people will really believe him when he says "This engine pulls ferociously- especially on the highway where passing power is frankly startling", or "The engine displays strength throughout its broad powerband however north of 4,500-rpm is where the after-burner effect of BMW's Valvetronic technology is most felt. Keeping the engine above this threshold produces formidable performance, not to mention an exhaust note capable of terrifying owners of domestic muscle cars"? Nope, clearly he is making fun of the lowly 3.0si.

An si coupe is a fine machine. In fact, any Z4 is a fine machine. Folks tend to forget that of the various Z4 trims offered in North America, the 3.0si and the M were the two most powerful. The M owners here are a very enthusiastic bunch, and rightly so - the M is a great car. But its not fair for that enthusiasm to be so unbridled that it leaves an incorrect impression of the 3.0si.

Honestly. Reason why i got the m coupe was because it was an M. And not atypical roadster but a coupe. When I was still in school. I love the z3 m coupe. I thought it was fugly but it was very special. Not a Porsche that u see everywhere. But back then I didn't have the money to get the m coupe. Luckily BMW decided to come out with the z4 m coupe. I got it right after it hit the showroom. Didn't care if the cayman s has better reviews on track. It's a m coupe.
The coupe is kinda half full glass of water isn't it? It's like getting and slk. Or a Cooper non S. If the m coupe didn't exist and it was just the coupe. We'd all be loving the coupe. But reality is that the m coupe z4. Does exist. Sorry 3.0. But at 18k. That's not a bad deal if u don't mind going to a z4 m coupe meet and feeling short.

Is that 18k CND? That sounds very low, you might want to take a quick trip to take a good look at the car. Carfax only records "reported" damage. Good luck with the hunt
