Seat belt deflector - what is that extra piece??
I'm trying to replace the seat belt deflector (part number 52107898478) on my coupe and I found a picture of it online. It has got this extra piece of plastic wedged between where the seat belt normally goes through and basically keeps it open.
Any idea what that extra piece is supposed to do? |

I first thought ECS had the wrong image, but after looking at this again, I think that's just a throw-away piece of plastic. You remove it, place the seat belt into the slot, then close it up. You can see where the little piece to the left fits into the larger piece below.

Yea I understand how it would work without that extra piece... didn't think it was meant to be discarded though, coz it looks like some engineering thought went into it.

I'm sticking to my theory that it's a well-engineered German packing peanut. If you find otherwise, please let us know.

Hi all - to follow up, it is a well engineered packing peanut :-). Just holds the clip open. New clip was easy to replace and came with three new screws, which were significantly smaller (less long) then the original three, oddly enough.

My package finally arrived... and sadly, that part is simply a packing peanut. I tried many ways to make it work but failed. Mine also came with the shorter screws which are about half the length. Didn't feel secure at all so i reused the old screws.
